The MO legislature just overturned on of the petition driven initiatives that was voted in (our sick time).  Rumors are saying they're going after the abortion rights and weed next (both petition driven and then voted in).  IDK about the abortion rights, but I think you will see riots over them trying to pull back weed.  First, there's just way too much money in it now.  Second, so many people here do use it to manage chronic pain (MO has often had a fentanyl problem) AND with what has gone on with Medicaid both statewide and federally, that will be a real problem.  My personal opinion is also that it's reduced alcohol usage and related consequences of that.  Our major liquor store chain went from 18 locations to 2.  18 locations is wild AF when you realize the city only has around 170K people in it.  The locations that are just pure bars, no food or other activities, are also hurting.  Analysts are saying that this is the issue that is going to flip the legislature.  I still don't believe that, but if they do go after weed....definite possibility, but it'll be close.

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday.  I need to clean my spaces, badly.  There's a lot of Harley hair floating around.  I get my legs waxed on Saturday and I'm ready for it.  I've had to let my leg hair grow and it feels so weird.  Just walking makes enough air for me to feel the hair moving.  Then return of my movie habit.  And it's a race weekend.  McLaren has won the constructor's championship, I believe.  I don't think it's completely over by the math, but it's got to be close.  I think both drivers would have to DNF at the same time, a few times, to let anyone else catch up.  Piastri is still ahead in the driver's championship.  This is the first time that someone I've followed since the beginning of their career is also competing for the championship, so that's been fun to experience.  I can see why people get so hepped up about things, even though I refuse to do that.  I think the championship will go to the last few races, and it'll be a weird one, like as long as Piastri places here while Norris places here, it'll be over (drivers have won purely on math by placing 5th or better than their closest rival on their last race and odd things like that).

So, nothing too big going on, but lots to start looking forward to.

This morning has finally cooled off a bit for us too @ei34! Upwards of triple digit temps since last Thursday so the boys were chilly and wore sweatshirts to school today when it was 73, lol.

I think I need to go back to my gyn and chat about BC options, etc. Being back on the pill has helped a bit wtih my mood swings, but I've been very irregular and it's hard to track my actual cycle. Which obviously shouldn't be happening when you're on a pill. But the mood swings are insane and it's starting to be a problem when I'm snapping at people at work and the little dudes at home when it's very unwarranted. She had suggested adding an anti-depressant for a week of my cycle every month and I may try it out. Idk. I just dont' feel like me and i hate being so angry and mean all the time.

    I'll get Prudie posted shortly!

woops, there were lots of letters this week. Just getting the daily thread back to the top.
  • Yah sounds like you need an adjustment to the pill @casadena, that’s a lot. I do a progestin only and seems to help?

Enjoy the baby snuggles @ei34!! We never had anyone visit in the hospital (M was peak 2020 pandemic, J was early and they recommended not having people come) so we never got to have aunties visit!

Not much here. Trying to adjust to boot life with minimal complaining. I opted to WFH the rest of the week which was the right call. My SIL (Hs brothers wife) is driving me nuts. They’re missing Ms birthday party because they’re traveling, which is no big deal. Like he will ask about them and then move on. But she wanted to take him out to ice cream to celebrate. Okay, fine. They live 40 minutes away. So she texts me today about this weekend. The literal only thing we have is a birthday party from 3-6 Sunday afternoon. So she asks both after. Sorry, no. He’s 4, goes to bed at 7pm and Sunday evening after a long weekend and a party is a disaster. Pick literally any other time. Well they’re “busy all weekend can we do Monday late morning”. WTF? No, I work. H works. M is in school. I just… this is something she asked for and is making is so damn difficult.

@charlotte989875 I'm on a progestin only as well and do a pretty good job of taking it at the same time daily! Not sure what's going on.

Sorry about SIL. That sounds very much like something my MIL would do and it's SO irritating.

@Casadena I was diagnosed with PMDD years ago.  They put me on Prozac with instructions to start the week before and stop when my period started, so for about a week.  I'm going to be honest, I cannot explain exactly how much I hated this process.  I did it for 3 months and told me doctor I was quitting that.  Basically I was always stuck in a "getting used to" and then "coming down from" the antidepressant.  It messed with me physically too.  It was when I walked into a wall because my balance was so messed up, that I told her this wasn't working.  There are BC options now that are supposed to be better for PMDD (not saying that's what you have, but just my experiences with the week on/rest of time off).  I found trying to make sure I worked out, ate low carb, and added the chasteberry was better for me than the anti-depressant for a week.  I know I've talked about the chasteberry (Vitex is the commercial name) here before.  It helped me for years.  I don't take it now b/c I have different needs purely b/c of age.
  • @charlotte989875 can you text her back with , "These are times that work for M.  Do any of them coordinate with your schedule?"  Then she's not saying, "Hey how about at 9:45 on a Monday night?" like it's a perfectly reasonable suggestion.

thank you! I'll look into the chasteberry - i remember you talking about that before. And yes, Gyn diagnosed me with PMDD last time I saw her. It is the wildest thing. I'll work on the low carb thing too. <3
  • Also @charlotte989875 let me guess - SIL doesn't have kids??

I can't think of a WORSE time to take a kid out for ice cream than an hour after he had cake and partied.  He's not going to want it and will be punchy.

@VarunaTT and @levioosa are there specific brands that you recommend? OR are they all pretty much the same?

I just bought the largest amount I could get on Amazon.  :D  @levioosa might have a better recommendation.

I will say that it's efficacy started to diminish for me after awhile.  I think I was up to 4 pills, which was 1000mg? by the time I stopped.  But that was after years of taking it, from when I was, probably late 20s to early 40s.  I had another friend who said it did help, but the efficacy shot up fast for her and she stopped taking it b/c of that.

I recommend Pure Encapsulations. Probably a little more pricy than other brands ($30 for 120 pills on Amazon), but they're a good brand. I've talked before about my love hate relationship with supplements. At the end of the day, they're another type of medication, just OTC and people have *thoughts and feelings* about them being "holistic." But the reality is they aren't regulated, and many have limited to no active ingredients, or they have toxic ingredients, or they are full of shit that aren't even on the bottle (for example, a study was done on those gas station "male enhancement" supplements, many of them had actual Viagra or Cialis as the active ingredient, so duh, of course that worked and also holy risk factor batman, and several diabetic supplements have been found to have actual Metformin and Glipizide as hidden active ingredients, again a problem for many different reasons).

Other good brands of supplements include Thorne, Vital Nutrients, Nordic Naturals (for your fish oil) and Integrative Therapeutics. You can also check online for third party certification stamps. The third party verifies that the supplements are what they say they are, in correct dosages, with quality control and spot checks. The National Sanitation Foundation (https://www.nsf.org/) is good resource for checking. I just found out that the collagen I've been using is not verified through them, so I'm switching my brand once it runs out.

She does which is the worst part! They are teenagers with busy schedules, which dictate everything everyone does, which is why they’re busy the rest of the weekend. And again- that’s fine but seriously asking if a Monday late morning works is absurd. I told her we were available the rest of the weekend or they could pick an evening evening during the week and we’d get M from school early. She said she’d get back to me. I can’t.
  • And now because I’m feisty- her husband works AT THE SAME BANK I DO. She knows I would be working at 11am on a Monday.

This would probably be the thing which made me black out from the aggravation. lol.

SIL B does something similar. In her case, it's because she's so selfish and self-involved that she simply doesn't remember what anyone else is doing. She is constantly calling SIL A in the middle of the day M-F "are you at work? Can you chat" Omg yes, she's had the same schedule M-F for the past 5 years. It's literally not that hard. JFC.

My MIL does the "well I wasn't sure if you'd be in a meeting at that time." Right.  I have meetings throughout the day.  Every day.  Please learn to text if the question is "what are you doing later".
  • Having a teen and older child I try to remember what it is to have limited timing. Sometimes it doesn't work out.  Currently I'm trying to plan Chiquito's birthday party and every year I conclude I gave birth at really inconvenient times.

Don't have unprotected sex in early March or around Thanksgiving.  Makes for birthdays around Thanksgiving and Labor Day and those are SO BUSY.
