Heading over to my sister’s house in a bit, going to take her older two for a few hours and have a newborn snuggle as well.

Weekend is all over the place. Tomorrow morning we are going to a wake for ex-BILs father (I guess just BIL…exH sucks but his family is fine). Then tomorrow afternoon the kids are finally seeing Lion King on Broadway. I’m selfishly excited as well, I’ve seen it a few times but not since 2004! We listened to the soundtrack on the long drives both to and from NH, the kids are pumped.

Sunday is a mix of mass, cleaning, and some lowkey time at the pool. I return to work next week so it’ll be the first Sunday in awhile that feels like a Sunday 🫠

I want to see Lion King so bad! It’s coming to Chicago too, but tickets (where I want to sit) are so damn expensive and getting to the city is a PITA but I think it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I’m still debating about it.

Yesterday was a slow day at work so my boss was like “it’s quiet, you can work from home”. I get home, log in, and all hell breaks loose. Of course. I fixed an issue that took a long time but much to my surprise, the guy I was helping emailed my boss and the head of a department about how helpful I was to get him out of the bind. That’s so nice to see when logging in this morning.

You know those vibration boards you see on tiktok? I’ve been using them even before they became a “thing”. Who knows if they really do anything, but it’s an easy….”workout”… I‘m far from the weight limit but my fat ass keeps breaking the springs I guess? Yesterday my third one broke. I bought the warranty on this one so put in my claim. It told me it was still under manufacturers warranty and to call the company. I tried but no
answer. I bet they’d say something like being fat isn’t part of their warranty anyway. I figured my sanity was worth $80 and just ordered another to be delivered today. I could see how that convo would go with them and would take weeks if they issued me a new one. Going forward, I’m not buying the expensive models. I’ll just replace the cheap ones every few months because apparently the $199 ones break just the same as the $80 ones.

I'm feeling more peaceful today. I think I've made the right decision for myself. I'm so relieved to soon be in my own space again and Harley free to do whatever she wants without someone fussing at her all the time for being a cat. The apartment is approved and I'll get the keys on Monday. We'll try and move my bed, work computer, fridge stuff, and Harley as soon as possible and I'll just have to move in stages. The new place is on the 4th floor, studio, and it's going to be horrid getting in. Maybe in September I'll have a day with a moving truck. It doesn't have a pool but it does have a gym! I'm hoping it's a decent one. One of my dearest friends lives in the complex which is how I knew about it. I'm also the first person to live in my apartment (it's a new building), so that's kinda nice. Plus I apparently hit all the specials, b/c it was 50% off the deposit and my first months rent will be at least 50% lower, so a bit of lucky help.

I'll be here for at least a year to try and rehab our relationship and then I'm seriously considering moving out of the city. I was always only staying here for her and well....she'll just need to rely on someone else after that. My aunts can take care of it, they're her biological daughters and they can act like it finally instead of 1. relying on me to do all of the things she needs and 2. bashing me at the same time behind my back like I didn't know and then 3. maybe they'll see what I see.

She's been bothering me with, what about this, what about this. I just keep telling her, these aren't your questions to bother about, I'm taking care of it. It just continues to confirm that I'm not seen as a full fledged capable adult (which I always knew but living with it was different which was always weird -- I can't take care of myself, but I'll take care of all your business? I have to accept that none of it makes logical sense and find peace with it) and her anxiety. She asked me if she'd still have internet when I moved? Just...whaaaa? I just said, yes, didn't ask any questions, didn't offer up any more info, just yes.

Weekend will be starting to box up what I can and putting out necessities to be moved ASAP. Probably some time at friends, just so I can have some downtime and relax in a not-tense atmosphere.

I'm working today and then having a farewell happy hour for someone in a different work area with whom I've collaborated quite a bit. It's a big loss for us but a wonderful opportunity for her.

Tomorrow I hope to get more purging/organizing done in the garage. The temps are forecasted to be in the low 70s so not too hot to work out there. Same for Sunday afternoon. Sunday morning we are having worship at a local park ampitheater so may go to that.

I'm doing laundry today so that will be taken care of before the weekend.

Our 19th anniversary is coming up and we're planning a day trip to the Zoo. DH will be able to use his scooter so that should work well. My sister may be coming over Labor Day and, if so, she and Mom may go with us. It's good to find activities we can do that DH can enjoy and meet his current energy level. We've found that if we are out of the house one day, he really needs the next day for recovery.

@ei34, sounds like a fun and exciting weekend except for the funeral. Savor that last veg Sunday for a while.

This was a busy week coming back to work, but I'll catch you all up on my trip from last week.

My grandmother passed away at 99, this last Feb. My Aunt A (mom's side), who lives in Dayton OH, had a memorial service for what would have been her 100th birthday. My Aunt M (dad's side) also lives in OH (Columbus).

We also stayed a few days in northern Cincinnati to check that city out more, since we will be moving there. We hadn't seen those neighborhoods on our first trip. That area is about an hour from Dayton.

While on the surface it was for a sad reason, it was an amazing trip and I am so glad I went. It was more like a family reunion. I was close to these cousins when we were children because we took combined family trips most years. But it had been about 20 years since I had seen most of them. I hadn't seen either of my aunts since my wedding, 13 years ago. The memorial service was a touching celebration of her life. Tears were shed, but it was uplifting.

We flew into Columbus and stayed with Aunt M our second night. She's a night owl also and we all stayed up until 3am catching up! Then we went to Cincy for a few days. On Thursday, we drove up to Dayton and stayed with my oldest cousin for the rest of our trip. My sister and her two kids stayed there also.

My cousin's H loves his grill and they fed us like royalty! Smoked wings that were incredible. BBQ pulled pork with all the fixings. Then he impromptu grilled everyone hamburgers for lunch on Sunday, which was the day my sister and I were both leaving.

It was so neat getting to know my cousins again, but as adults. They are all fun and cool people that I enjoyed hanging out with. It makes me more motivated to move to Cincy, knowing I have all these wonderful people I can see more often. My H also had a great time and really liked everyone also.

@VarunaTT, I'm glad your apartment plans are firmed up now and you can take your time to move. Yay for specials! That's great your friend lives there also.

A gym is a nice amenity. For me, it would be even closer to ignore than one that is 5-10 miles away and I pay a membership for, lmao.

Seriously though, I hope you and your mom can rebuild your relationship once things are back to the previous status quo.

I'm catching up on everything from the week but wanted to say hi. I was traveling most of last week and sick and "WFH" most of this week.

G started Kindergarten today!!!!! He did SO well. Was understandably nervous, but very excited and no tears or clinging at all. Both H and I cried on the way home. Can't wait to hear about how it went!

oh wow @VarunaTT - i'm so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. I'm sure it's heartbreaking to watch your mom fall deeper into depression/dementia but good for you for having boundaries around how to handle it and taking care of yourself.

Work has been absolute chaos but I’m WFH today finally and it feels a little calmer. We’re talking through plans to get through the chaos so at least that’s good.

Weekend is pretty sparse, hanging with Hs sister and her boys a bit on Sunday. There’s a fundraiser for a farm we drive by everyday on the way to school so we’ll take the boys. Hopefully they can see some cows. Other than that just enjoying the last bit of summer.

So excited for you and G @casadena! M starts after Labor Day!

Awe glad he was OK with school @Casadena, that would tear me up too if I had kids. I’d be like “you were just born yesterday! How are you going to school already?”

@VarunaTT Monday is a very quick move in date. I’m impressed you got one so soon and a gym sounds great (even though I’m on @short+sassy’s side about still not going regardless of the convenience)
Your trip sounds great S+S, and I’m glad you’re moving to a place that has family so it’s less of a impact on your social life at least

Work has been insanity and I'm dead. I'm just finally getting the first chance to check in this week. Nothing much around here this weekend. Park run and some errands in the morning, then I've got to catch up at work tomorrow afternoon. I have no idea what tomorrow night, but we'll find something fun. Game Sunday. It's supposed to rain all weekend, so at least a break from the heat. I'm over summer already.

Happy it's the weekend. I have a lot to do this weekend with packing and cleaning before our trip. Otherwise, not too much else is happening. I would go visit my grandfather but now that H is sick the last thing I want is to potentially expose him to something nasty. I hope you all have a nice weekend!
