Tired Tuesday

How's everyone?  Wishing all a good day!

Re: Tired Tuesday

  • Those days are bittersweet @ei34!!

Week feels very long already and it's only tuesday. Yesterday was great - very productive and was nice to work from home and get some laundry done during the day also.

I waited too long to book my hotel for a conference next week and am stuck booking on tripadvisor. I understand they have rooms reserved that aren't available on the hotel site, but still always makes me nervous? idk - have you guys used it and been fine? I don't have a ton of options at this point.

We need to bite the bullet and pick some things for our primary bathroom. I've been putting it off because I don't like anything i've looked at. But we need to get it done. So that's on the agenda for this week as well.
  • Nothing much going on here. I had my annual physical this morning and my veins did not want to cooperate for the blood draw. Poor dude had to take it out of my hand, and I struggled. I was trying to be normal, but somehow it made me feel like I was going to pass out. I managed to snap back to normal pretty quickly once it was done, but I'm so embarrassed. I'm not usually a bad patient.

Work is still relentless. This project launches in October and we should level out then. I'm counting down the days.
  • We were supposed to be in Yosemite this week but instead we canceled, so I canceled my PTO and am regretting it already. Last week was...a lot. Saturday I had a laser hair removal appointment and as I was sitting there being tortured I decided that we needed to get out and away from home for a day. We have been sitting at home, watching terrible news, in a terrible environment, and we needed to get away. So I came home and told H he had a choice between the beach or the mountains for the rest of the day, and we agreed the mountains was ideal so we took off and an hour and a half later we were in a beautiful little mountain town and debating selling everything to live the rustic life. On the way home we stopped at a local farm that is known for events and some other cool stuff. H was unsure at first but by the end he thought it was pretty cool. It was a really nice day, however we definitely paid for it the next two days and I was exhausted. Yesterday was full of appointments and then the rest of this week is busy with work.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

@casadena can you call the hotel directly to book instead of through the conference room block?

  • @levioosa that sounds amazing that you live in an area where you get to make those choices: for me, it’s “do I want flat lands to the North of me, West or South of me?”
@Casadena, I have used third party services for those without any issues.

SSDD for me too. My friend and I saw conjuring last night. It was good. Why it had to be 2 hrs and 15 minutes is beyond me. They could have left some stuff on the cutting room floor. Lol.
I also get to work from home the rest of the week since no one will be in the office. That’s great as I have more prep time to get ready for my upcoming trip.

  • @CharmedPam we are very lucky to be in a place where usually within 1-2 hours we can hit beach, mountains, or desert. I really want to start utilizing it more because it is a very privileged place to be in. Granted we pay a California premium for it, but not a lot of places in the US have the same accessibility for all three environments.

  • @mrsconn23 welcome!!!!

Busy week here.  Chiquita had a doctor appointment yesterday and hopefully she can be back to practice/gym for her sprained wrist.    It's back to school night tomorrow, a soccer game she has to attend Thursday and Saturday we leave early for an overnight camping trip.  Oh - and she has classes.

Chiquito is busy in his own right too so it's a week of trying to hold it all together.

We're now in the zone of figuring out a medical 504 while contending with the issue of a high school locking a lot of its bathrooms because of nefarious activity that occurred in him while I just need to know that my kid can find a place to not have an accident.

  • Welcome back @mrsconn23 ! So good to hear from you. Glad things are going well. 2 babies - wow! Kiddo has a full plate.
  • @mrsconn23, it's so good to hear from you and get some updates!  I'm so glad your new job is going well.

@CharmedPam, when I lived in CA, I had a few especially adventurous friends who during the winter would wake up at the crack of dawn to go surfing in the morning and then drive to the mountains in the afternoon for snowboarding.  They'd usually stay overnight but sometimes came back the same day if funds were low.

I do not regret that I never went surfing.  It didn't appeal to me and I'm not getting up super early for the best waves.  There is almost nothing I will get up super early for, lol.

But I DO regret I didn't go to Big Bear (mountains closest to me) more often.

I asked my first New Orleans b/f where the closest mountains were so we could go snowboarding.  He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Ummm...Colorado?"  That's messed up!  Even Hawaii has a mountain people can ski on, lol.

@levioosa, I was fantasizing about moving to Bali or Thailand a couple days ago.  It is incredibly cheap for a nice place on the beach.  I was shocked to discover that I could afford to do it now.  I briefly looked at retiree visa requirements for those countries and it looks like Thailand is the clear winner.  So tempting to just say "eff it all".  I need to look more into that.  Unfortunately, while a lot of people like Thai food...including my H...I do not.  But can probably figure my way around that with modifications.

Indonesia requires you to hire two local household workers, with a cost of $155-$270/month for each person.  Almost criminally cheap for domestic labor, but the high end of the scale is a lot of money for something I don't need.

  • Welcome back @mrsconn23! Two bebe’s! Your life is full lol
All this buyout and re-org talk makes me nervous as we’re going through that now. I’m conflicted even if I get to stat till spring. I didn’t get a save the date for our conference, so I naturally thought I wouldn’t go  BUT they kept on asking us to choose shirt sizes for shirt we usually get at those conferences. I ignored the email because the way it was written, it looked like salespeople only. I am not in sales. But then I got a separate email saying today was the last day to choose. I wanted to be like “oh, I’ll be employed by then? Didn’t think I would be since my entire office got a save the date but me”.  But I just chose my shirt size for the god awful shirt I’ll be getting. Or not getting.
