Tired Tuesday

Hoping it's a smooth day for all!

Re: Tired Tuesday

  • I couldn't get out of bed this morning (I'm usually high energy).  Even skipped my 5am workout. And today will be very long (weekly after school meeting, the kids have a lot of stuff).  Going to power through though.
  • I think I’m back to the grind. I was off for 10 glorious days. NYC and then a Maritime cruise.
We have four travelers in our group, and 95% of the time we get along great. ‘Cept when it’s bedtime. My roomie insists on the coldest temps. I like to be comfortable which is usually no heat or air. But I compromised and put the thermostat to the 2nd blue. They have 3 reds, 3 blue zones. She felt it wasnt good enough and kept getting up and turning it to 3. Then I’d get up, turn it to 2. Which is generous for me because even the other 2 (who like it cold) thought that was cold too and it still is. I later found out she has verbally said she didn’t care what others liked, it was going to be her way.  She also sets her alarm to 5 am to take a pill, and goes right back to sleep. Sometimes I can too, but not when I’m bolted out of sleep and my heart is racing. The other 2 wont share a room with her and apparently she doesn’t know what compromise is. Age lives alone. But we ALL live alone and get to do what we want in our houses.
and the other traveler is gluten free and likes to bring that up every 5 minutes and we can’t dine anywhere because she wants gluten free specially made meals (like special breads and sauces) and doesn’t like the whole “just eat meat, veggies, rice, potatoes, etc”. We had 2 whirlwind days in NYC and didn’t stop for food really, so thankfully I can chow down on street meat :)
other than the temperature controls and hearing about how my friend can’t eat anything, it was great! It couldn’t have bothered us too much because we’re planning a cruise on virgin lines after hearing many good things about it.

  • Welcome back, @CharmedPam. What ports did you visit on your cruise? It sounds similar to one we did a couple of years ago.

DH apologized yesterday for Sunday. It's good that he realized he was an a$$, but in the moment, it's really hard. Apparently, I need to work on my facial expressions.

Had PT this morning  He cupped my back and did some deep tissue work  It's improving slowly  I have a couple of new exercises to do now.

This afternoon, I'm headed to a funeral visitation for a former manager of mine  She was only 55 yrs old and died after a very short battle with cancer  Was playing with grandkids over Labor Day weekend and experienced shortness of breath  Went to her PCP a few days later, had 1.5 liters of fluid off her lungs  Imaging found a large tumor and a biopsy showed untreatable cancer  She was an ovarian cancer survivor but this was a different type  She went on hospice and never left the hospital  She was a wonderful mentor when I became a supervisor. We went through some stuff. Our motto became, "You can't make this $hit up!"  Tonight is our homeowner associations monthly meeting and also the annual meeting  A new homeowner, who is pretty strange, is planning to attend so it could get interesting.

I did get the house decorated for fall, inside and out, this weekend. Next Sunday, I'm taking DH and two of his sisters to see another sister for her birthday. She lives about three hours away. The Vikings are playing in London, so the game will be on in the car. Hopefully, I can get some crafting and such done on Saturday.

  • I’m so sorry about your coworker @MNNEBride. How awful and so quickly too. I’m glad DH apologized.
We did Newport RI, Boston MA, Bar Harbor ME, St John New Brunswick and Halifax Nova Scotia.
To be honest, I think I liked the cute little American New England towns over the Canadian ports and I was looking forward to those more!
Because I’m so organized I put all my pictures into folders. My first cruise ever - 55 pictures in that folder. This one (amongst four picture takers) has 355! My 2 days in New York (2 picture takers) was 346. A lot of that was wax museum though. Gotta take one of everyone. Lol.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss @MNNEBride

Back to work today and I'm sad about it. Was off for a glorious four days and we spent the weekend down by the beach. It was beautiful. Saturday I spent the whole day at a conference but we got a solid walk/hike in the morning. We had some great food, fun drinks, and nice walks around the beach town. The only downside was our hotel had 0% sound proofing. Like at one point H was in the bathroom and could hear the housekeeper mopping the bathroom next door with the shared wall. The hotel pretended it was a four star hotel, but really it was 3-3.5 at best. Still a great location but I definitely wouldn't call it luxury. I think next time we stay we'll probably stay up at Torrey Pines again because the vibe is just more relaxed.

Otherwise I'm back to work today. My staff person is officially on Maternity Leave and I'm so sad about it. Tomorrow is looking awful at work. And I picked up Saturday so I have a whole week of this. Boo. Otherwise, SSDD.

I'm glad you had fun @CharmedPam. I'm not gonna lie, I know it's cheaper but I don't know if I could share a room with someone I found with the whole time over temperature. Life is too short to be uncomfortable in my own cruise room lol.

  • @CharmedPam, sounds amazing!  Except for the selfish roommate.  For me half the fun of traveling is eating, so I could see a traveling companion restrictive with restaurants as hampering that.

Case in point, I almost suggested to my friend we go to NYC for a long weekend because she hadn't been there before.  She is very well traveled both from her profession and personally, so I was pretty surprised.  I stopped myself short, just in time lol.  She naturally has a small appetite and usually only eats one meal a day.  She is also limited in what she eats, though can usually find something on a menu she likes so I wasn't as worried about that other than we often can't split meals.

There are a lot of places I'm open to traveling with her, but not a place that is a FOODIE HEAVEN like NYC.  She understands most people eat more meals than she does and is very accommodating about it.  But then I would feel bad dragging her to restaurants 2-3x/day.

  • I was in Halifax last week too @CharmedPam! Though not on a cruise :)

Tired today, was sleeping really hard when something woke me up suddenly and i could not fall back to sleep. Ended up in the guest room eventually which helped.

Still catching up on work after so much travel (which is work, but not getting stuff done at my desk work). Trying to get everything in place for month end stuff tomorrow and just annoyed that i haven't made time to totally revamp a spreadsheet I inherited that is a mess.

Struggling with dinners lately. Dudes have been VERY resistant to really any food period, but are ALWAYS hungry. Like guys, we can't have cereal for every meal. Hopefully they snap out of it soon - the whining is getting insane.
  • @CharmedPam - we did Portland, ME (KennebunkPort), St. Johns & Halifax.  My favorite was Halifax and the Titanic references.  We also enjoyed that it was a different type of cruise rather than sunshine & beaches.

  • Cool @Casadena, Halifax was our Friday port and I had no idea a recovery team from Halifax went out to help the Titanic either. The public gardens was really cool, but other than that - not much to do there. I do agree a very different cruise @MNNEBride. Portland ME was actually a stop in the original itinerary but they swapped it for Boston and YES PLEASE!
yes @short+sassy, I love trying local foods and it’s half the fun. I feel bad for her because think her condition is even worse than celiac, so she has to be real careful. And she’s also soy free to boot. But shouldn’t we all be? And I’m really trying to cut my carbs myself, although nothing happens to me when I eat it, but I know I’m better off, health wise without it. Vacations are different though. You’re supposed to get wild with food lol.

  • So sorry for your loss @MNNEBride. It is so difficult to loose someone so young.
