Reeeeally missing important info

Dear Care and Feeding, Is it unreasonable and cruel that my son and his wife won’t let us see our grandkids unless we drive 120 miles and make an appointment. They refuse to drive to see us (they only drive 10 miles to work and said we are too far and should move.) The situation has escalated to the point where we weren’t even notified that our second grandchild was born. We are blocked from their social media and had to hear about it from our friends. We put both our kids through law school and this is what we get in return. —Parents of Ungrateful Children

Re: Reeeeally missing important info

  • Why are they mentioning two kids and complaining about one couple? I'm assuming they didn't put the DIL into law school.

There's a ton missing here.  Did the LW think they could drive the 120 miles and show up unannounced?   Most people consider that 'planning a visit' and not 'making an appointment' so the entire verbiage of this letter reads as a clinical parent with entitlement issues.
  • Make an appointment. Yes, exactly. You arrange ahead of time before you show up at someone's house.

My FIL has done this. He hopped in the car in Miami with the intention of showing up at BIL's house in Ohio without any warning or notice. It worked out great that BIL and family happened to be out of state at the time.

I suspect the entitlement of showing up is not the only reason this LW is blocked.
  • The martyrdom is dripppinnngggg. I can tell they totally think they have it in the bag to hear that their kids are ungrateful brats.
