Where is everyone??

Re-entry into work after two weeks off has been rough! People are circling back on all the things we said were January problems. Past Charlotte gambled future Charlotte and it was a bad call.

We also got the results of Baby J’s sleep study and they found he has severe obstructive sleep apnea. So now more tests and follow ups and treatments.

Awe poor baby, so small for sleep apnea but now that they know maybe restful sleep is in the future?

i’m here but really busy. Our company was sold yesterday. They said no changes, and at day 1 none have been made. Lol. But basically our pay stays the same for this year, it’s up in the air for next year and going forward. Plus, this summer it’s considered a demotion as I will have to add in extra costs for public transportation into the city that I wouldn’t have if we stayed here.

So yeah. Happy 2026. The job market doesn’t look so great but maybe I should start?

  • Hi everyone! Back to the grind this week after 2 weeks off and it feels like i've never done my job before. Just reeeeeally zoned out for real for 2 whole weeks and it was incredible. Kids were great and Xmas was fine. I'm not a huge Christmas person in general, so honestly it was nice to just be home and hanging out - not running around and traveling. Did a few out of the norm activities like arcade, legoland discovery center, trampoline park, etc.

Small hiccup when i went to turn on the Christmas tree lights the day after and stepped in a huge puddle. Turns out we had a crack in our foundation that was leaking with all the rain and almost our entire garden level was soaked (our house is split level and our family room and office are garden level). It was fixed yesterday thankfully but now we need to redo drywall, replace carpet, repaint, and possible new furniture if we're getting new everything else.

Haven't caught up on everything while I was gone, but hope everyone has a nice Holiday and got a bit of a break.

@charlotte989875 so sorry to hear about Baby J - what are the options for sleep apnea at such a young age?

@CharmedPam i know you've been worried about work moving to the city :( good lukc with whatever you decide to do job wise!

Aww vibes your and baby J's way @charlotte989875.  Glad that there is a diagnosis but hope that it leads to a treatment plan for better sleep/overall health.  Lol at your discussion post, I think that a lot, especially lately.

Good luck to you @CharmedPam, I'm glad that your hand isn't being forced right now due to the change, even if it's a lot to take in.  Thumbs down on the upcoming new commuting costs.

I'm returning to semi-functioning-human level after 48 hours of the stomach bug from hell.  Phew.  I did peak at the days I missed - healing vibes your way @levioosa!
  • Oh, no, poor Baby J. I'm sorry to hear about the sleep apnea @charlotte989875. Although if he has to wear a mask (I have no idea how different peds sleep apnea might be compared to adults) you totally should get him a Darth Vader sleep onesie.

Bummer about the reorganization and about having to be in office now @CharmedPam. It feels like a lot of us are going through less than ideal work changes and I'm salty about it for all of us.

@Casadena That sucks about the leak. I'm glad you caught it early before it turned into something even worse like house mold remediation. Still a total bummer about all of the unexpected costs at the beginning of the new year.

    Healing vibes your way too@ei34.

I'm WFH the rest of this week and am being stubborn about it. H wants me to take the rest of it off but we don't get sick time and it would come out of my PTO and I don't want to do that. Somehow having both the flu and COVID simultaneously hasn't destroyed me. Like, I definitely don't feel great, but I do feel better than all of the past times (three now,  :s ) that I've had COVID. Which probably says a lot about how bad I usually have the 'Rona. Fingers crossed I just gradually feel better and don't develop some secondary complications.

  • I took the first full week of the year off.  I think I'm going to make this a tradition.  B/c I feel like the break after the holidays, plus not having to deal with everyone who was off for 2 weeks and "circling back around" to stuff they left from before they took off.  It's been great.  Plus all the stores and chores I need to visit/do in the real world, aren't busy b/c everyone is tapped out from holidays AND back to work.

@charlotte989875 I didn't even know small humans could have sleep apnea.  Big hugs, healing vibes, and hope for better sleep coming soon!  @levioosa I can't believe you're standing with Covid and the flu, but I hope it stays mild for you.  @CharmedPam big purple job vibes, no matter which direction you choose.  @ei34 Big hugs.  I can't imagine how it feels to have a child struggling like your daughter is, but I'm so glad that she has you advocating and helping her.  Aaaand, now I can't remember who's garden level flooded, but ugh and I hope everything works out.

Well, it's official that I'm diabetic and have high cholesterol and am going on meds for both.  Had a long conversation with my NP last night (She called me with the diagnosis and talked about the plan forward and asked if I was okay....I know she's getting screwed by the people she works for and I just want to shake them and point at her, saying this is the standard that all healthcare should aspire to and the administration should be helping her, not making her job more difficult.  Admin took away their secretaries and outsourced incoming clinic calls.  WTF?  It feels like HIPAA would make that an issue.  Anyway, segue/rant over).  She's written the Rx for Mounjaro -- hopefully insurance approves it and doesn't make me go through Metformin first.  There are a lot of reasons that she thinks the Mounjaro would be beneficial for me, so fingers crossed.  She said that this is the warning bell; these things are still reversable with minimal damage, so it's time to make the necessary changes.

Otherwise, things have been going well.  I had to laugh b/c they started the depression questionnaire and I started laughing.  I was like, Oh yeah, I'm very depressed, but I'm at a stalemate with it.  It's not getting worse, I'm pushing back and doing what I need to do, and I just exist at this level.  **shrug**  Modern humanity, I suppose.
  • I'm sorry to hear about your new diagnosis @VarunaTT. I hope the Mounjaro gets approved first. It's such a helpful med for so many reasons. I'm glad your week off was restful too.

    Oh sorry about that @VarunaTT!
    a few things;
    - I don’t get my mounjaro from my insurance cost. I use Elli Lilly’s webpage and they have a coupon annually that you can use if your diabetic. You reminded me to secure my code with my mail order pharmacy.
    - you may want metformin too. I do well with both. When I took myself off metformin, my a1c went up and I had to go back on it.
    - I also have high cholesterol, but with my a1c going down that helped immensely. I’m not on any specific med for that.

Thanks @VarunaTT.  I think it's going to be a long / possibly lifelong journey for DD.  I'm exhausted but want her to feel her best.  Healing vibes your way too.

@Casadena oof, so sorry about the flooding!
Def WFH and not PTO if you're up to it @levioosa
  • @ei34 You are doing a fantastic job helping her and trying to get her set up for a healthier life as an adult. As a kid I had so many cries for help and it was always ignored and deconstructing that as an adult has been a hell of a time. Having a perceptive and caring parent in your corner is invaluable. I know it's hard, all of the hugs to you both.

Thank you for telling me about the card.  I couldn't find anything on their website, so just googled for the card specifically and found it.  Just as an FYI: the card I received is for the entire year -- maybe new for 2026?

Yup! Every year you have to check if they continued the program. Through my insurance Mounjaro is high but this helps a lot.
