Hosted Sunday Brunch Day After Wedding

We’re planning a brunch on the Sunday after our wedding for all of our guests, since it’s an out-of-town wedding for the majority of them. My husband’s two aunts have very generously offered to “host” the brunch, which will be held at the hotel, and to cover that portion of the cost.

They’ve asked to be named on the wedding invitation because of this, which is where I’m feeling a bit unsure. I’m incredibly grateful for their generosity, but I also haven’t personally seen or heard of extended family members being listed on a wedding invitation or “hosting” a wedding-related event in this way. It’s not something I’ve encountered before, so I’m a little confused about what’s considered traditional or appropriate.

Has anyone else experienced something similar or have insight into how this is usually handled?

  • I wouldn't do it but instead would tell them you'll happily either issue separate invitations for the brunch OR include an enclosure card in the invitation for the brunch noting that they're hosting.

Ideally they need a headcount of some number (because not all guests necessarily attend) and they'd need to know who to send responses to.  But the wedding invitation is for the wedding and it's the same weekend but not the same event.

Ideally that's the compromise that works especially if you have other family members who are actually hosting the wedding and reception.
  • I agree with @banana468. Their names should be on the brunch invitation or enclosure card but not the actual wedding invitation since they aren't hosting the wedding. Hopefully they will be agreeable to this.

Agree^  I've attended many morning after brunches when we all stay at a hotel after the wedding.  It's its own invitation, and that's where the hosts are listed.  Not on the wedding invitation.
