Frigid Hump Day

Hope everyone is keeping warm, these sub-zero temps are no joke!

Re: Frigid Hump Day

  • If feels almost balmy today at 25 degrees after the frigid temps. Supposed to be closer to zero for most of the week/weekend. My work is very affected by incredible weather/temp swings so I expect to be on call quite a bit of the weekend.

Had a super fun night with the boys last night - H was at a work event - we had a nice dinner, watched a show, built legos for 2 hours, and had a very calm bedtime. I love nights like that.

SO TIRED lately and been having very vivid/intense dreams. Lots of self defense, spiders and fire last night. If anyone can interpret dreams, please help, lol.

Midterm week continued.  Another pretty quiet day after work, the kids just have Religion.
Received the save the date for one of my cousin's weddings this summer.  I was pretty sure that the kids wouldn't be invited, and they officially aren't.  Totally fair, but still a bummer, I always prefer when they are.  SSDD otherwise.
  • Yesterday was COLD. Friday will even be colder. Hello winter, doing all its winter stuff.
Work is work. No shake ups. I’m bored at home since meetups and just hanging out have been slow. I had to add some stuff to the weekends so they wouldn’t be so empty. Maybe I should also do mid week dinner get-together. Those are easy to add. I think our area is in restaurant week too. Other than that SSDD.

  • Yesterday was cold, everyone was home on a snow day, and were exhausted.

Everyone’s back to school today! We just got an alert there was a threat to the HS in our district (which is thankfully a separate campus from M’s elementary school) but still terrifying all the same. I’m guessing it’s because it’s regents exams week, but still they had to call the K-9 unit and the police. Just a regular reminder that school violence is a thing we have here.
  • *hugs* @charlotte989875 That's so scary. I hate it here.

I am sending warm and undamaged power line vibes to everyone in the path of the storm! Stay safe everyone!

@Casadena I figure most of my nightmares stem from the absolute uncertainty and hellscape we're living in every day. You're literally fighting back in your dreams.

Yesterday was very busy as anticipated. I anticipate another busy day, plus it's supposed to rain the next two days and people don't like driving in the rain. We also have a lot of people come down the mountain and they try to avoid driving in the rain and snow and will come down before storms. Otherwise, SSDD. Still waiting on a full time offer. Trying to debate on how long to wait before following up. And if I even want the position.

  • It is a tad warmer today but temps drop dramatically over the next couple of days. We went to the bakery that our landlord owns. Oh my gosh it is delicious. I wanted to buy some of everything but did exert a little self control. We are going to get pizza there tonight when grandson 3 comes over for a sleep over.

We eliminated 2 houses today just by driving by them One is only 2 houses in from the train tracks and the other only has a one car garage (I somehow missed that on the listing). Hope to get out to Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect in the next couple of days to look at a couple of houses. There isn't a ton on the market right now, at least not for what we are looking.

Thank you. We are headed there today. DD's nanny lives in Arlington Heights. After we check things out, I may reach out to you. I've been over there a couple of times to get the boys shoes when they were little. There was a small old-fashioned shoe store that measured feet and everything. It has since closed that location. The downtown area looks nice. I've never been in Mt. Prospect other than driving through it.
  • Glad you're getting out today before the cold comes through. MP and AH both have great downtown areas right on the train line to the city. Lots of walkable restaurants and parks, public libraries are close. Enjoy!
  • Catching up with everyone.  Hugs and vibes.

I am adjusting to working on-site most days.  I've been exhausted from getting up and out early.  Also, the mental load of getting everything prepared before I leave the house.  Thankfully, DH has been super supportive and is doing fine staying by himself.  The cat is adjusting because I'm not home all day, but even she is getting there.

We started our education year on January 16th, and 2026 is scheduled out to December.  Friday, we had a last-minute meeting and were informed that leadership is directing us to cut the number of weeks for each cohort, AND they want it done by the end of February.  UGH.  We currently do 4 weeks with a week of assessments.  There are currently 8 cohorts a year.  The good news is I may be working from home more often.

High tomorrow is predicted to be -11 with wind chills to -40.  I have a half-day on campus, and then I can be home and hibernate.

Hoping to pull together the tax stuff this weekend so I can drop it off.  The cleaning service comes on Monday morning, so it's a good time to do a general pick-up and organize the house.

We really liked Arlington Heights. H said it is more what he is envisioning if we move here - not so urban.  Hopefully we can get over there for dinner or lunch and walk around a bit if it warms up for a bit in the next month. The next few days will not be that time.
