Dear Prudence,

My wife, “Angela,” cannot be on time for anything to save her life. Last weekend we were supposed to go see a movie with the kids, but true to form, Angela got up less than an hour before the movie was to start. The kids were getting upset over missing it, so I took them to the movie and left my wife at home. More than halfway through the movie, I got a text from Angela asking where we all were (she had just gotten out of the shower!). Now she’s pissed at me for leaving her behind. I think this is a good lesson for her to learn about being more considerate of others. I’m in the right here, aren’t I?

How about saying it.

"Hey, we are leaving at 12:45 for the movie. If you aren't ready I am leaving without you."

I think what she's doing is so jerky, but you also should say, "Hey, I'm leaving in 5. I will AIS you if you are not on time because I will not let the kids or myself down because you ignored a clock."

I mean, she's an adult and should be able to get herself out of bed in time to go to a movie, but I also wonder why no one woke her up. I feel like we might be missing part of the story here.

I’m the kid of someone who is never on time so I know how much it sucks missing things because your parent just can’t figure out how to get there on time. And I’m not talking 5 minutes late I mean 20-30 minutes or longer.

But also what time was the movie that she was just waking up? Does she work particularly difficult hours that make normal wake hours harder? I’m not saying the LW is wrong leaving her but if there’s missing context here I’m curious
