Weekend was really nice.  Pretty busy, but enjoyable nonetheless.  Too much going on this evening  :s

This is my third year in a section of Social Studies 8.  Kids (families) in my district are pretty Trump-y, so it's always amusing to me when we get to the unit on The Great Depression, particularly the focus on Hoover vs. FDR's leadership and their levels of obligation towards helping the American people.  On blind activities (so they don't know the political party particular policies would align with) they all enthusiastically support FDR's policies and the idea that a government should want to help its people.  Then at the end when examples of modern day politicians who align with certain ideologies pop up, there's outrage and disgust that they agree with a more liberal mindset. Unfortunately they leave saying "never mind, we like Hoover", bc they just want to go along with whatever the modern-day Republican party says.  But that moment when they realize that a government can and should care for its people, before bringing current day politics into it, is always great.

Oh I love that cookie story @CharmedPam!  8th grade is 13 yr olds.
  • As my aunts would say (and actually I do too), that young man was raised right.

Weekend was ok. I'm still taking it easy and slowly getting back to normal. I got some awful news on Friday. One of my cousins was hit by a car and killed (lived in the country and was getting his mail). He and his brothers are the big brothers I never had. All weekend it was communicating with his daughters, brothers and nephew along with my kids about the services. The services are this coming Sunday. Unfortunately, due to distance/logistics my kids can't go. They feel really bad about it. His kids and my kids are more like first cousins than 2nd cousins.

Tonight we are going to our church's version of theology on tap. Apparently we can't call it that because the Catholic church has copyrighted the term so we need to come up with a new name. I'm terrible at that sort of thing.
