Wedding Woes

Tired Tuesday

I'm sleepy today. Not too much going on today. H is at his parent's house. I bought a book for his dad since his mom is really starting to decline with dementia. It's called The 36 Hour Work Day. I saw a Neurologist recommend it in one of the notes I was reviewing for work and I decided to get it. It has really good reviews online. I hope it's helpful.

Otherwise, work today, pilates later if the instructor I like is teaching today, and then back at it again tomorrow.

I hope you're feeling okay today @ei34

Has anyone else seen The Odyssey?

I haven't seen it.  DH and I are floating back and forth sci fi movies to see but The Odyssey isn't listed.  I may want to see if with Chiquita but she's mid-stint at camp and won't have a lot of free time when she's home on the weekends for the next two.

Chiquito is also at camp and I think he's kind of homesick.  The bummer for the kiddo is that I think he didn't really prepare like he should have and I question how much I need to lead the kid to water.  In his case, it's literally because he needs to be a better swimmer and didn't make the swim level he wanted to get - but he also didn't practice.  I'm both frustrated with DH and if we should have done more but also think a good failure for the kid may be what he needs to motivate him to be less lazy.

Not yet @levioosa but I doubt I will because sci fi isnt my thing. It’s considered that genre right?
@ei34 take it easy today at wolf lodge!
Yesterday was a bad ride home because of horrible winds and storms. Trains were running late. I wasnt paying attention (plus it was hard to see out the window) but I get off on the third stop. The train was going extra slow but I SWORE I counted 2 stop so got ready to leave on the third. I got out and it looked weird but thought it was the train car I was in, being more towards the front. Nope. I got off on the stop too early. And with trains running behind, I had no idea if the next one would also stop at my station. I called an uber to my station and THEN figured out I could just hop on the next train coming in 10 min. At that point, it would already be a cancellation fee of $6 so I just kept it. This is my lesson to pay attention and if I cant see the outside station sign, they do have it on a scroll pad on the inside. I had my earbuds in and couldn’t hear the announcements. Anyway, tomorrow I get to uber to and from the city because we’re doing a special event and I don’t want to leave my car at the station. That’s another thing! The daily commuter lot is around this secluded corner near the forest. And maybe it’s just me watching too much true crime docs - but dead bodies end up in the forest. It’s a long dark walk to my car after I get off the train. In the winter, I’m thinking of getting a permit so it’s closer to the train drop off lot. They did not make the parking lot very convenient unless you’re on the heavily populated trains with all the after work commuters.

I guess I just never considered Greek Mythology Sci-Fi but I guess you could designate it that way? Lol. In some ways I really liked it, in other ways I totally understand the critiques. It's such an expansive work that short of doing a mini series I don't think you'd be able to translate it exactly to screen. But a huge eyeroll to people dressing up "historical accuracy" as arguments to defend their obvious racism and bigotry. The Odyssey itself wasn't even historically accurate. It's based on multiple oral tales that were written down later by multiple authors and even those works contradict themselves sometimes. I did really enjoy the telling of the "hero" through the lens of the horrors of war, pride, guilt, PTSD, and shame. Visually it was beautiful as well. If you go see it I do recommend ear protection because it had no business being that loud.

@charmedpam I don't know if listening would have helped much. I don't know if I've ever been on a train and been able to clearly make out what the conductor was saying.

@banana468 I think it depends on his usual personality. Is he a kid who internalizes in a negative way and experiences paralysis in moving forward with failure? Or is he a kid who gets extra challenged and motivated by it? If it's the first, doing some extra debriefing would help. Hopefully he has some great camp counselors who can help him manage his feelings about all of this too.
