Registries are HARD y'all!

So I deleted my target registry after hearing terrible things and decided to go with Macy's instead. Well now that there are nicer choices than BBB and Target I wanna pick out nicer things (obviously)
For real is it this hard to pick stuff out for a house?! FI and I have been living together for a while but we really don't have much nice stuff, however since we still live in a duplex and not in a house we own, we don't really have a design scheme yet.
I spent 20 minutes agonizing over two different sugar/creamer sets!
Its really difficult for me to keep my brain organized and make sure everything I choose goes together nicely and fits a style for a house we dont yet have!
plus i know that once we get married we will entertain more than we do now so I've got to plan for things like serving dishes and coffee pots and crap like that.
did anyone else have this much trouble?

of and sidenote: FI's mom isnt coming to our wedding. She led us to beleive she had tickets to fly down and didn't, no way we can scrape together that much money in the time available. Feels like a pretty crappy decision on her part, but I can't judge cause I've never met the woman

Re: Registries are HARD y'all!

  • One good way to do review and make sure everything 'matches' is to just look at them online! Since we have C&B and BBB we will have some pieces coming from each.

You know whats hard though?? Watching the things get claimed on the registry and wonder "why did someone get me TWO salt mills?" or "why did two people pick up the kitchen accessories kit??" Oh well, should be fun for the bridal shower in about 2 weeks!!

  • I totally understand. It was difficult for me too. First, my FI and I have completely different taste. He likes everything dark & manly. I like everything pink & girly... o.O

After we worked that out, we had to pick out items that would go in our imaginary future home. Thing is, we don't live together now & don't even live on our own. So, we don't have anything. We need to build from the ground up. Up until yesterday, we didn't even have an apartment. So, it was hard to pick things to go into an imaginary apartment that would one day move into an imaginary home.

Like PP said, online shopping is great. Pick out what you love in the store and then go back & sort through online. Often you'll find a pattern (everything yellow, everything with stripes...etc). Items often have matching sets, especially china, crystal & flatware. Ask for help if you need it. Don't stress too much because in the end, it'll be ok.
  • Yeah I'm just doing them online. Going through each category and adding what I like. Then I'll go back tonight to edit and adjust. I think its the best way for me to do it, plus i can go "oooo i want that and that and that and that and ooo thats pink i want that!" Then later be mean to myself and take it all off lol

  • Like you said, you can go back & add whatever you like. My aunt was pretty emphatic in telling me to pick out whatever my FI likes when we're in the store & then just switch it out online later. I wasn't digging that idea too much, but you can do it. I did do the Target & Kohl's registry with him, but I did the BBB only with my mom. So, I pretty much had full control on that one. **muauhahaha**
  • It'll be fine, just make sure that if you're choosing items from the website (rather than walking in the store) that there aren't too many "online only" items on the registry. I heard a lot of complaints about that at the last shower I went to.
