  I recently bough a few different dresses since I have SO MANY showers/weddings this year. Basically they are just nice sundresses, or casual dresses. I bought one that is simple and plain green, and it can either be dressed up or down. I wore it to my FI's fire department dinner with a pair of brown cowboy boots and it was a huge hit. I guess how you should dress depends on the atmosphere of what you are going to. Are your showers fancy or at big classy places? Is your RD a big deal?

  I agree with cowgirl, it all depends on the atmosphere.
  I am wearing a sundress to my side shower, because they plan on it being outside and it is going to be in June so it will be hot... I want to be prepared to sweat.
  I am wearing a nicer dress to my RD (which I am also wearing to a wedding in May).  This is because my FI said he was wearing a button up and tie so I dont want to look undressed compared to him.

  I actually just posted, I am debating getting one of those convertible dresses to wear for both of my showers... that way I can buy one dress, make it look like 2 different ones and be set :P

  I will probably wear a nice simple dress for my shower, focus more on getting myself a fancy new pair of heels (shoes are my fav)!  For the Welcome dinner (semi-destination so everyone is invited to the Welcome Dinner in lieu of a smaller rehersal dinner), I am telling everyone casual, and I will likely wear a fairly casual dress, again maybe with a fun pair of shoes haha!. 
  
  I think the bride can get away with wearing something fancier for the shower/RD if you want...but you definitely want to be comfortable!
