Wedding Makeup!!

I will be doing my own makeup with some help from my friends but I just use the cheaper stuff daily. I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions on what makeup brand to use. I will be having an outdoor wedding and reception so I need something that can hold up to the heat.
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Re: Wedding Makeup!!

  • I always use Clinique and love it. But I've heard MAC is great for occasion makeup... I think they will do your make up for free also, as long as you purchase some of the products... if you have time in your schedule...

  • ULTA also does makeup for free as long as you purchase 30 dollars worth of cosmetics. I just had the makeup done and purchased the lipgloss and mascara she used for touch ups.

My FSIL is a makeup artist and uses MAC. Hope that helps! As far as a foundation that will hold up in the heat, I'm not sure.

  • I'm also having an outdoor wedding and am planning on using air brushing for the foundation. That's what most of the brides on my destination board use since it seems to hold up so well. I'm not sure of a brand though to recommend to you... If you go to Sephora, there should be some there you could perhaps try out?
  • Love the ideas of hitting the makeup counters for a "free" make over.  I'd buy about $30 in product for touch ups anyway.

  • Okay, are you ready? I product queen and have used everything. I am also a gym rat so I like make up that is sweat proof and stays on....

    Faceprimer:
you'll want to start with a primer to keep your make up. It will seal up your pours so the makeup sits on top rather than sink into your skin. This will make it last longer. I love this smashbox stuff. It also gives you a nice matte finish so there's no shine.

You'll want a nice foundation. I would recommend MAC or SmashBox or Makeup Forever. Definitely a well blended foundation wil a setting powder on top. Definitely recommend MAC for powder. Chanel and Benefit also make great foundations.

I LOVE bronzer. I never tan my face. So I need a little extra color up top. The benefit hula is great. Definitely sweat proof. It also has oil absorbing powder to keep you matte:

For colors for your eyes and checks I would go with MAC.

I love MAC eyeliner in the kohl smudgeproof pencil.

The spritz some of this on to set your makeup:

Remember that make up for photos is different then real life. Also, try to check your make up in the light that you'll be in for pcitures, and then adjust reapply.

I would also make sure you invest in some nice brushes. That can make a HUGE difference.

Good luck! I love makeup and products. Message me if you need any other recs!
  • i am doing my  own, and i would def. recommend make up forever HD foundations.  I am using benefits primer, & i bought a spray so that my makeup wouldnt smudge (i sweat a lot).
  • For foundation I'll be using MAC Face and Body. It's water-based so it's very thin and has buildable coverage for a natural look. Once it's set with their translucent Prep+Prime powder, it doesn't budge. Plus, since it's water-based it feels like you have nothing on, which is what I love the most about it. Also, since it's a body foundation, I can blend right on into my neck.

Additionally, unlike a lot of foundations, it does not have mica or titanium dioxide - which are the ingredients that make your face look really white in photos since they reflect light. Therefore, it photographs really really well. If you apply it right (ie with a good brush) it can look almost like airbrushing - just more natural.

I agree with PP about using primer. I'll be using the MAC primer powder on my face pre-foundation as well as Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. It's crazy how much more pigmented eyeshadow looks when you use this stuff. Also, it doesn't budge or crease - very important on those hot August days.

You'll definitely want to make sure you have blotting papers (or coffee filters!) due to the heat - this will help get rid of shine as the day goes on.

so true! the urban decay eyeshadow primer is AWESOME. i used to never wear eye makeup because i hated how it would crease, and just look messy. I use this now and its perfect & the shadow is much brighter.
  • I love anything Bare Minerals! Lasts forever and looks great on! :)
  • It's funny when you break down the composition to see what you really need to 'pay for' and what you don't.  Some of this expensive stuff is 100% the same as the less expensive stuff, you just have to be a smart consumer.

I bought a few pieces where the price is really worth it from Lancome.
One of the best selling products out there is Aquatique - it's an eye primer that will keep the shadow on all evening, and keep it from moving.
I'm also using their shadow, mascara, lipstick and eyeliner.

My base is a primer, powder, foundation, blush, and bronzer all from L'Oreal.  My lips are a blend, but the base is actually MNY.
