Honeymoon options?

Recently engaged, and of course, aside from being married, the honeymoon is eagerly anticipated!  We will be on a budget, however I don't want to spend my honeymoon in a cabin in the Poconos.  I'm hoping we will get some cash gifts and be able to go somewhere nice, but I doubt we'll be able to afford the Seychelles or Maldives.

Has anyone gotten any really good airfare deals lately from the NYC area?  I'd love to be able to go to Hawaii or Europe.

H and I got married and spent our honeymoon in Ireland.  It was an amazing trip.  What's your approximate budget so far?  Definitely don't count on any cash gifts because if you don't get enough you're screwed. Plan the honeymoon you can afford.

  • Hawaiian Airlines just started flying non-stop from NYC to Oahu. They've had some pretty great deals considering the length of the flight. You may want to check in with them if you're looking into Hawaii.
  • Also, depending on the season, Bermuda, in the Atlantic is lovely and usually has great temps.

Find a good travel agent. Most don't charge you anything (especially not for a conversation) and you can tell them your budget (and what kind of places you'd be interested in) and they will help with everything.
If you have AAA, go into an office and sit down with someone. At the very least they can send you home with some pretty brochures to look at on your own. =)
  • Not sure what kind of budget you have but my husband and I were also on a tight budget. We got married in February and took our HM in April. My parents gift to us was our airfare and so we opted to go to the Dominican Republic because we heard it was relatively cheap and very beautiful. Using wedding gift money we paid for our resort which was 7 days all inclusive at a 5 star resort. We stayed at The Paradisus, in the Reserve section. Our total cost for the resort was $2652.00. Everyone was surprised at what a good deal I was able to get and I did it myself, without a travel agent. If you are willing to go during off peak times you will get much better prices and will be able to afford soo much more.
  • Keep an eye on groupon, cheapcarribbean.com and bookit.com

  • My HM wasn't cheap, but we went to St. John in the USVI and rented a little one-room cottage for 10 days. Everything on St. John is expensive, but if you do something like this you can save money on food by cooking it yourself. We did this a couple nights while we were there. St John is awesome with gorgeous beaches and great views!

  • If you belong to Costco, they have seasonal deals. Pick up a little booklet of the offers - some of them are extremely affordable trips to places like Hawaii and the Caribbean.
