Miniature Brides Dress

Hello ladies, my niece is going to be our miniature bride and his son is going to be our ring bearer.  We have two other nieces that are going to be flower girls.  They will be wearing black dresses.  My miniatture bride is going to wear an ivory dress bc that is the color I am wearing.  The question I have is where did you all get your flower girl dresses from?  I want her dress to be pretty formal.  I have looked at so many websites that I am just overwhelmed.  Did you get the dress from a bridal salon or a website where you can order dresses from?  TIA

The only time I ever saw a miniature bride was on that Gypsy wedding show.  It's basically the same thing as a flower girl, right?  We were going to have a flower girl (on of FI's cousin's daughters), but then the mother gave birth to twins with a lot of complications, so they can't come to the wedding.  We were going to get a dress from Nordstroms- they have the most adorable flower girl dresses.

  • Oh, my.

OP, are you 100% set on this idea?  A lot of people find the whole miniature bride thing kind of creepy.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I think the mini bride and groom are prevalent in certain areas of the South. And yes, creepy.

I agree.  I'm very much not a fan of "miniature brides."  If she's going to actually function as a flower girl, please refer to her that way.  She's not getting married, so don't call her a "bride."  To do is creepy.

<div>This. My sister was a miniature bride in my cousin's wedding, and quite frankly it was creepy.  I mean, she was an eight year old with an up-do and a lacy white dress and gloves.  When I look back at pictures, I still think of how odd it was.  And my cousin was the miniature groom/ring bearer.  My aunt had to pay him $50 to walk down the aisle with my sister because he was convinced that everyone would think he was marrying his cousin.  So even one of the children involved was seriously creeped out.  If you are dead set on this idea, I would look at department stores for ivory Easter dresses come spring.  </div>
  • Flower girls = cute

    Miniature brides = creeptastic.

    /bangs gavel.

  • Super creepy. Why do we need to instill in little girls the idea that the the highest form of woman is "bride?"

  • No idea about miniature brides, and we aren't having a flower girl, but we have a daughter who will be 20 months when we get married and will walk FI down the aisle. I got her dress on after Easter clearance last year four $7. It's pretty fancy and the only regret I had was when I saw the Neiman collection at Target, but the dress I feel in love with was too big for DD. Other than that, I haven't seen anything I like as much as this dress.

At any rate, if you have time, wait until spring and check clearance racks.

  • Check department stores as the Easter season approaches. I was a miniature bride when I was 5, and my cousin was one when she was little as well, and I just don't see it as creepy. It's mostly phased out of fashion in my area, though. I do think the Gypsy mini-brides are creepy, but then so are the communion dresses they wear, so I think that's more a function of the dresses being so extremely over-the-top. And the make-up. *shudder*

  • This isn't something that I've seen since the 80s, honestly. If it's a part of your culture, go ahead. Otherwise, as PPs have said, it's kind of creepy.

Why would you want a mini-me at the ceremony? And why set one of the three little girls apart?

  • Funny story, libby.

I won't comment on the mini-bride thing, since pps have covered it.
David's Bridal has a selection of long white flower girl dresses. They even have a 'mini-bride' section. The on line outlet had some good deals. Department stores will be putting out first communion and Easter dresses within the next month or so.

[QUOTE]Look for white dresses at a shop that sells First Communion dresses, or wait until Easter dresses comeon the market. "Miniature brides" are not a southern custom.  I think it's prevalent in the Roma (Gypsy) culture, and in some Hispanic areas.

Not the Roma kind of Gypsy, no.

  • Yes the miniature bride is a southern tradition, and it's not to be creepy or to try and make a kid look like a woman. It was believed that the mini bride confused bad spirits that may try to mess with the real bride on her special day. It basically kept bad luck away on the wedding day.
