Wedding day schedule

My ceremony is at 2pm. I am either getting ready at my parents' house which is less than a mile (and no traffic lights) to the church, or at a nearby hotel which would take 15-20 minutes to drive there. My question is, what time do I start getting ready? Are we talking 6am, 8am, 10am? I have been in plenty of weddings but now I can't remember what our schedules were the day of!

  • I have a 3:00 ceremony at a church that is 5 minutes away from my parents' house where I will be getting ready.  My rough schedule is:

    9:30  hair appointment
    10:30  makeup appointment
    12:00 - 12:30 bridesmaids arrive (already dressed) at parents' house
    12:30 - 2:00  photographer takes candid getting ready shots and some posed pictures with my bridesmaids and parents
    2:15 go to the church
  • Well it depends on who is getting ready with you.  Are you doing hair and makeup done somewhere?  All of my BMs decided to get their hair and/or makeup done at the same place since most of them go there anyways.  My ceremony was at 3, and I wanted to get dressed around 2 for pictures and stuff, and have enough time to eat lunch before getting dressed.  I asked the salon what time we needed to start our appointments to all be out of there by 12:30 at the latest.  Our first appointment started at 8:30, but we had 8 for hair and 7 for makeup.

  • I don't know all of the details yet (wedding is Sept 24), but I am considering having a hair stylist come to my house or the hotel. She has a partner that could help if enough bridesmaids want to get their hair done there too. The bridesmaids (there are 7)  can do whatever they want- get dressed with me or ahead of time, get their hair done wherever, makeup is up to them too. But since I'm considering having people come to us rather than traveling to the salon, that should give me a little more time, right? Not much I'm sure!

  • I would figure out what time you want to be done by.  You probably want to start getting dressed by 1 at the latest, depending on how many pics you plan on doing before.  You can have lunch at the house for everyone while getting your hair and makeup done.  So you probably want the hairstylists to be done by 12 at the latest.  I would recommend maybe even 11 though so you have some time to relax.  One of my favorites parts of my wedding day was relaxing at my parents with them and my BMs as we ate lunch and had some champagne between hair/makeup and getting dressed.  But that was me. 

    Either way, I suggest asking the stylists what they think.  Tell them "we have x amount of girls needing their hair done, and I would like to be finished by 12.  What time do you suggest starting?"

  • Timeline is in my bio.  Generally with this sort of thing, it's easier to start at the end of the day and build backwards.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Our ceremony is at 2:30 (April 30, 2011).  I have my hairstylist (with her assistant who also does make up) coming at 9am.  That is about as much as I have so far. I got some time, but we are getting ready at my moms place, and she lives across town from the place where we are getting married.  I do know that we are going to have plenty of time. I have 4 bridesmaids and they will all be getting their hair done (gift), and dressed at my moms. Leaving approx. 2pm.
