Cheap DJ in L.A. area?

I've been set against having a D.J. (don't need to hire an emcee and can make my own ipod playlists) BUT my potential wedding venue charges to use their speaker system, so I thought I would look into the possibility. Does anyone have suggestions for a cheap (i.e. $500 or not much more than that) DJ, perhaps someone who is just starting out? The wedding will be in Pasadena. Also, if not a DJ, has anyone rented stereo/speaker equipment for a venue and have suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

I was thinking about having an iPod DJ...then a couple of months ago I went to a wedding where they had an iPod as the DJ, and there were some issues. On big speakers it was really noticable that each song's volume is slightly different, the song transitions were really awkward, and since the playlist was preselected, most songs weren't really right for the moment. I think dancing stopped about 30 minutes after the first dance was over.

My DJ comes with my wedding package so I don't have someone to offer in particular, but I looked into a company called The Pros that I found here on theknot, and I think they have DJs for pretty cheap, like around $600.

Thanks for the replies! simplestlife, I believe that itunes has a function where you can make sure all songs play at the same volume, but I don't know how well it works. As for the songs not exactly fitting the current mood, I realize that could be an issue, but Ithat isn't a huge concern for me. I have lots to think about, and thanks for the suggestions. :)
