THIS GUY!

After trying to get in touch with our cake baker for months we finally learned that she's no longer in business. Basically just dropped off the face of the earth without telling anyone. THANK GOD I've been trying to ask her a question otherwise I never would have known!

Now we're scrambling to find a new baker. We don't live in a big area so there aren't a lot of options. One place I called is already booked for the year.

Oh and she took half the cost of the cake as her deposit so we're also out of a couple hundred dollars for the foreseeable future. We'll file with small claims court, but I'm not counting on it.

Egads! That's so not cool. And frustrating! I hope you're able to find a baker. You could always try the grocery store if it came down to it. Good luck and I hope you find a baker and get your money back.

if she went out of business she owes you the deposit back...if you back out she can keep it, but if she backs out...you paid for something and are not getting it. Its your money...might not be enough money to worth your time and effort and/or money for a lawyer, but techincally you could take her to small claims court. Her being the one that broke the deal (unless she has filed for legal bankrupcy) she legally owes you that money.

ETA: sorry I didnt see the last line...I am glad you are going to try and keep her accountable for it, it really bothers me when people take advantage of other people through assuming they can get away with it when its blatently wrong.

I would try the local grocery store!! Maybe look on craigslist too! I found some good bakers on there. (just meet with them first!!!).

Have you tried contact a local news station and seeing if they can investigate and maybe even help you out a little some bakery may here your story and help you.
