I'm not sure what to think, personally.

Re: Slimfast Wedding Ads

  • Honestly?  I'm finding it kinda funny.

But, I also don't think SlimFast is a healthy way to lose weight, so I'm not encouraging others to try SlimFast or lose weight for their wedding.

But, ya know, I'm giggling at the little figures falling into the cake.
  • Bah, not a fan. Mostly because I don't like B&G cake toppers. I will say, though, that when I realized my wedding was a little over three months away, and I'm five lbs heavier than when I ordered my dress, I needed to get my ass in gear.

Conversely, why is this just a woman problem? Why can't the groom be the fatass sinking into the cake? I know the Slimfast demographic is mostly women, but I find a hint of sexism in this ad.

  • LC, that's what I hated most about it, too.  Then again, most weight loss campaigns are aimed at women because in our society even very small women think they could stand to lose a few pounds.
  • That's a good point, LC.  It is a little sexist with the guy being the one who is svelt and the girl being the problem.  But, it's usually girls who are stressed and want to lose weight for their wedding.  I guess they're just going for the sex that will be most effected by the ad.
  • Eh, I'm really lukewarm about them. Marketing to brides is a brilliant marketing scheme though. I know my ass was at the gym the day after the proposal.

But Slim Fast is definitely a horrible weight loss plan.

  • I admit, I laughed a little at the one with the bride falling through the cake.

Yeah, I mean, I see it from their point of view. They're trying to appeal to a certain demographic. I just wish it weren't that way.

  • I think I'm more troubled because like PP said Slimfast is not a healthy way to lose weight, and I think people should be more concerned with lifestyle changes then losing weight for one specific day. But thats just IMHO.

  • Slimfast is not a good option for losing weight. Too much sugar or artificial sweeteners. I used it in college and although it worked, it made me feel like crap. Anything they do, I give the side-eye. Same goes for special K, which is so devoid of any protein or finer that its just like eating white rice for breakfast.

I love Special K, but their "weight loss plan" makes me laugh.  Of course you'll lose weight if you eat two servings of cereal a day plus dinner.  That's a drastic reduction in calories.  It's not a *healthy* reduction in calories, but it's basic math.
