Crock Pot

So the previous post got me thinking. I received a crock pot off our registry for the shower. Well I have never used one nor do I know anything I can actually cook in it. So what are your favorite foods to cook in a crock pot? Any receipes you would like to recommend to me?

Re: Crock Pot

  • I use my crockpot pretty frequenty during the winter, mostly on Sundays. I love it. I like to make beef stew and chili. You can also throw in meatballs or chicken. I usually find recipes on web sites like AllRecipes.com or you could google "crockpot recipes." I like that you can throw a bunch of stuff into the pot and let it simmer for 4 or 6 hours and viola! Dinner! Plus, there are left overs for a meal or two during the week.
  • I Love my crock pot.  Possibly an abnormal amount.  But really, it's so wonderful.  We just throw stuff in there at night, then in the morning we plug it in, and by the time we come home from work, there's dinner.  The entire house smells lovely, too. :)

Crock Pot favorites?  We use it for corned beef & cabbage, or any other large meat.  I also made a stroganoff  (sp?) that was delicious.  And some meatballs.  I'm not sure of the recipes, though. I often just go ahead and look up recipes online.

    So yum.

  • We don't have a crock pot, but I've made this crock pot recipe in our oven a couple of times and it's amazingly tasty:

  • I just cooked cornish hens in the crockpot, with just some simple seasonings (salt, peper, garlic) and they came out great!

I also love beef stew in the crockpot during the winter.

One of my favorite recipes (which FI hates so I never make it anymore) is salsa chicken:

    1 lb chicken breasts (raw)
    1 package of taco seasoning
1 cup of salsa (your choice, hot, med, mild)

Let it cook on low for 8 hours, add some sour cream right before serving. Its delicious!

  • Oh my gosh! If you like pulled pork, I have the best crock pot recipe. Pork loin, bbq sauce (any) and a thinly sliced large onion. Layer the bottom of the crock pot with just over half of the onions (this helps stop it from sticking & drying out) , then lay the pork loin/shoulder/picnic roat in top. Season to liking with salt & pepper. Cover with the rest of the onions and then slowly pour bbq sauce on top. Cook on high all day, at least 8 hours. I have done overnight with great results.

If you want to eat with like sauerkraut, you can just remove the meat and shred. If you want it covered in bq, shred it in the crock pot.

Best recipe for this. So easy.
  • Since I can't seem to cook beef on the stove without it turning into shoe leather... I used my crockpot instead!

    Pot Roast

    2 lbs chuck roast
    2 packets onion soup mix
    1/2 beef broth

Place the roast in the crockpot and sprinkle on soup mix. Add beef broth. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  • O I love the crock pot! Its so easy and you just throw everything in there and let it cook. I have an AMAZING beef stew recipe.

    Heres the ingredients:

Stew beef in the meat section
Beef broth at least two cans
    Potatoes
Carrots (I get the baby ones in produce)
    Celery
    Onion
    Corn (canned)
Green beans(i get the big can cuz i Love GBs)
    Flour
    Salt
    Pepper

Turn on your crock pot to high and throw in the beef stew raw and put like a teaspoon and a half of flour in there with it. I dont measure anything. This recipe is awesome cuz you just put as much as whatever you want in it.

You just cut up a couple stalks of celery into 2-3 inch pieces. Peel and cut up 4-6 potatoes into cubes however big or small you like your potates to be. I throw in a few slices of onion. I dont like onion so I make them a few big slices so I dont get them in my bowl. And then you seriously just throw everything into the crock pot season it a little with some salt and pepper and I even throw in some garlic powder. And pour the beef broth over it all. And I like a lot of broth so I use like two cans of it and fill it up! And let it cook for 4-6 hours (I actually like it to cook all day from morning to night when its dinner time). I stir it a couple times during the day. And the leftovers are even better!

Its SO good and SO easy

  • we make chilli and beef stew a lot.
  • Beef stew, chili, pulled pork are my favorites. Search on tastofhome.com or allrecipes.com for crock pot recipes.

It's the best kind of dinner because you come home to a house smelling of yummy dinner and you don't need to make dinner!

  • I LOVE my crockpot!

One of my favorite thing to make is actually a whole chicken. Just put it in your crockpot with a little water (or chicken broth) and whatever seasoning you want and cook on low all day. It's so moist and delcious!
Then when it's done, take the chicken out but leave everything else in the pot. Once I cut up the chicken I put the bones back in the pot too and add some veggies (celery, carrots, onion) and let it cook overnight to make stock which I usually then freeze for soups and recipes later.

I use our crockpot at least once a week and hope to use it more this summer when it's too warm to use the stove/oven in our apartment!

We do this almost once a week!  I also do roast beef and chili like everyone else.

An easy recipe I used to love was 2 pork loins and a can of cream of mushroom soup.

You can seriously make just about anything in it! It is the only way I cook pork, cause otherwise its to tough.  Occasionally I do sweet and sour pork.  I think the sauce is corn starch, pineapple juice, soy sauce and cider vinegar.

I make applesauce it in...throw in a bunch of peeled and cut up apples with a cinnamon stick and some lemon juice (preservative) for 8 hours and you get fresh yummy apple sauce!

  • I use my crock pot religiously! I use it mostly for chili and soups. I did however make orange chicken for the first time last night and the recipe called for some crock pot time.

I cut up the chicken into bite sized pieces before dipping it in the batter. Ignore the picture (it turns out much nicer looking than that)
  • I LOVE my crock pot.  You can cook pretty much anything in it.  I have recently found this site that I love:
