How much did your alterations cost?

So I bought a RD dress online, which turned out to be improperly measured (coupled with the bit of weight I've lost, we're talking... about 6 extra inches in the bust/waist).  The seller said they have a smaller size (which I hesitate at, since it was so poorly measured the first time), and have agreed to pay for return shipping, plus shipping of the new dress back to me.  Alternatively, I said covering the alteration locally would also be a viable option.  The seller agreed, as long as it's "reasonable."

So my question is, what are your local experiences and price range?  I heard very good things about Linda's Alterations in Brewer (I live in Bangor) and will be calling tomorrow, but I'd like to get a range of opinions.

I'll be bringing the dress to be altered regardless, because I'm having the bottom half chopped at the knee and using that extra material to make straps/sleeves from (I'm not a strapless girl).  So I thought it would be as easy to get it taken in at the same time (since it's likely that even their "smaller" size won't be just right, and I'd have to get it tweaked anyhow).

It's a very pretty dress.  I know that each of the bridal shops in Bangor have seamstresses that work there as well, you could try looking into someone at each of those locations.

The seamstress at House of Brides is a real sweetheart

Bridal alterations usually average from $100-$300 for a professional bridal seamstress.  Now if you just go to any old seamstress that can hem a skirt and pants, sure you will pay much less, but bridal is a completely different ballgame, you don't just wnat anyone taking your dress apart.  Bridal fabrics are much more delicate and not to mention if there is beadwork!!  You need a preofessional.  And the cost has nothing to do with the cost of yur dress because they usually all require the same work, so even if your dress only cost $200, you could pay the same or more for alterations.

I recommend Sarah Michniewicz in portland, 879-7397. I would not let anyone else come near my bridal gown, she is a perfectionist and does gorgeous bustles!!  Also, if you are having custom work done, she is very creative and fabulous and hand beading!!

This is just a rehearsal dress, no delicate fabrics, no beading... just a dress.

My alterations cost $55 dollars.  This included taking in the dress, bustle and she pressed it plus my slip.
