E, the reality show.

Has anyone seen the show "Four Weddings."  The premise of the show is that they take 4 brides, and they all attend each other's weddings.  The brides rate each other on the dress, venue, food and overall experience, and the bride with the highest ratings wins a honeymoon.

I watched a couple of episodes, and it was refreshing to see "real people" commenting on a lot of the same etiquette lapses we advise against.  One bride didn't have enough seating for their ceremony, one bride had a "cocktail reception" at dinner time with no alcohol, and only finger foods, etc.

I wish the newbies would listen to us more, since we obviously don't live in our own little etiquette bubble.

Re: E, the reality show.

  • Hmm. I watched it once, but the four weddings on that one were all really nice, high-budget affairs, and the comments were all super-catty. It was all very, "Ugh, I can't believe she would have a chocolate fountain!" More opinionated, personal preference stuff than faux pas. I didn't bother to watch again.
  • I've seen it, only one episode start to finish, but bits and pieces of a couple.  The thing I don't get is that usually there are budgets anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000 and it doesn't seem fair that they're compared to each other.  I know you can have a really lovely wedding on a low budget, but obviously you can offer a lot more with more money, that's just the way it goes.

  • Opal - there was some of that, too.  Maybe it was just in the episodes that I watched.

  • I watched it recently and saw the cocktail reception with no alcohol and where they ran out of food.  Seemed like they tried so hard to be frugal they ended up being cheap. KWIM?
  • You are right Fischy. Nice memory!

    <div>I must have watched the same episodes as you!  The girls 'stealing' champagne, eating crackers, and ordering in delivery made me laugh. I hated the girl who 'won' but funny how she was the one who had awesome food and lots to drink...kinda says something...</div>

    </div><div>I watched the same one (and hated the winner too). Her wedding certainly won as far as making sure guests were taken care of but i felt like it wasn't a fair competition because she had a 30K budget while all the other girls had 2-5K budgets.  I'm not saying that budget is any excuse not to throw a good party (the crackers?  absolutely heinous!) where your guests are taken care of but I wish E! would match the contestants a little better.  For the weddings that didn't win, I felt like a lot of their problems could have been solved by not having weddings at expected mealtimes, etc. because they clearly couldn't accommodate guests in the way in which they should have.

  • I like the on in AC where the budget was $150,000.

    Ok by like I mean I thought it was weird as hell.
  • ::pops out from hiding::

    Fische, we had two girls.  One who's show was nixed due to one of the other girls switching venues at the last minute and her new venue wouldn't sign the papers to allow TLC to tape.

    And another who actually won, if I remember correctly.

    Good memory. Wink

  • I saw the one with the bride who didn't have enough food at her wedding too. She thought it was AWESOME and the best night ever. All the other women thought it was horrible because there was no food.

    Funny thing is-- this particular bride thought that one bride was seriously tacky for making jokes during her vows and even said "Sure, she said her vows right, if you plan on getting a divorce!" or something to that extent. Uh, you didn't have food for all your guests. Thanks, hypocrite, move along!
