Long Island (NY) Style reception on South Shore?

I grew up on Long Island but my Finance and I now live in MA and a planning a Boston/South shore wedding, but I am used to my NY receptions which are over the top with way too much food.- Are there any other NY-Boston brides out there that know what I am talking about?  IS there anywhere to have long Island wedding in MA .... without completely going over budget?

Thanks!

We did Thompson Island - Clambake and it was amazing- plenty of food and choices for everyone.  www.thompsonisland.com

I totally understand where your coming from on the NY style. We just got engaged and I'm starting to look and I haven't found anywhere that is comparable to NY. But I have to say you got to give a little and take alittle that is the only way you'll be happy.

I'm from Queens (Forest Hills) so I know exactly what you mean with the over-the-top food aspect of a New York wedding.

Almost all places have a "traditional" cocktail hour (passed apps and cold stations)... but everything else, hot stations, carving stations will be ala cart. Desert stations and late night snacks will be ala cart as well.

Whats your style and budget? Are you looking for a hotel venue or something similar... OR maybe something totally different? With some more info we can help with recs.

    GL in planning!

Have you tried Newport? Or even Plymouth. Fiance father is in L.I. too and to me it looks exactly like the Cape (where I've lived my whole life). Stepping out of Boston makes it easier. Quincy also has some beautiful places, or Nashoba Valley too.

I'm from Long island and my fiance and I live on the south shore.  I first thought about having our wedding in Boston and started searching online and came across http://raffaels.com/raffaelsnew/index.html never been but it's what I was looking for.  Ultimately, I convinced the man to have the wedding on Long Island ;)
