Need some insight??

Ok... here is my issue.. this is my second his first, he does not want a big wedding which is fine with me. so we where thinking about going to Cancun but he thinks that once we get there and turn in all our paper work they are going to make us pay extra for stuff... so he wants to go to the court house and get married then go to mecixo and have just the caramony?? Has anyone done this or know someone who has, do you have to go through all the same paper work, since you are not actually getting married there? any help would be greatful. Please and thank you.

Are you talking about getting married at home in the US, then going to Cancun for a blessing on the beach?  Sorry ... I'm trying to follow but having a little trouble.  Please clarify ... thanks!

    Welcome!

We are getting married in Mexico as well - but will be doing the legal bits here in the states before we head south.  Our ceremony in MX will be where we say our vows and commit ourselves to each other in front of friends and family.

To get married in Mexico (legally) requires blood tests and a couple of days of paperwork.  (I didn't want that hassle!)

Check out the Destination weddings board here - many ladies over there have gotten married in Mexico and have some great insights!

My friends attempted to get married in Mexico, and it was too much red tape. One of them needed a temporary resident VISA or to become a citizen and then the application was going to take 3 weeks and they were only there for a week.  They found all this out two days before they left so they went to the JoP, and had their religous ceremony on the beach in Mexico and celebrate their anniversary as the day they were married on the beach - New Years Eve.

The best thing to do is contact the government of the area you're wanting to be married in.  Although I would strong suggest doing the civil thing State side, I have known more people who attempted to get married aboard only to have an issue and have to go the JoP route afterward.

I know a couple of folks who had their ceremony in Mexico and then came home and went to the courthouse.  Each one said the red tape was too much as well as very expensive, and then things get "lost" mysteriously and you pay again and again.

In that case, I think you might be able to find resorts with someone who can help make arrangements for a beach blessing ceremony.  Best of luck and enjoy!  Congratulations!!
