Where To Get E-ring Appraised?

I am the worst and haven't insured my engagement ring yet. We're finally closing on our house this week though, so I'd like to have it appraised soon and just stick it under the house insurance policy. Any recommendations where I can have it appraised? I work in Somerset County and will be living in Hunterdon County, so somewhere in that general region would be awesome. Thanks!

  • I had mine appraised at a Jared store... the person doing the appraising was a certified gemologist/non-Jared-related person, but he goes around from store to store... so if you have a Jared near you, they should have somebody there once a month. It cost $150-$200 so you might be able to find a better price elsewhere, but for me it was convenient... GL!

  • Yeah, usually the place where you purchase the ring will give you an appraisal form for the insurance company.

I mean... unless it's an heirloom... or from eBay... or from a gumball machine.

  • Yeah, I would suggest getting it appraised where he bought it from. They didn't charge us for that.. If you need a place though, it isn't really in that area, but we really liked Anthony at Capital Diamond in Union. That is where my E-ring is from.

Just called Kay Jewelers where we got our rings what a joke ! They mail out the rings to get apraised takes 2 weeks and cost $250-$350 depending on how many stones they have to size up to 10 stones! My ring has 29 diamons in it so I would be looking at up to $500 for an appraisal Kay is a Joke with appraisals dont go there.
  • Ours was appraised for free at the store we bought it at when we went back to get the insurance on it.  Do you know where your ring is from?  Also check the paperwork, you might have the appraisal already.
  • Some insurance companies don't require an appraisal - mine didn't and I have state farm. Check before you shell out the cash

I went to Jared and only paid $95 but mine is a solitaire.  I was so happy with my experience that I went back and had an heirloom ring appraised.

I was actually told by people on the boards and other friends who had their rings appraised to not get it appraised at the place you bought it from because they tend to appraise it for less.  The guy at Jared works with Jared but hes an independent appraiser who travels to Jareds but he isn't emplyed by them.

<div>They only need appraisals for $10k and up, but I have heirloom jewelry I was looking to have appraised as well. I'm pretty sure this ring isn't worth over $10k though, haha</div>
