Annulment Question

My fiance and I can't start officially planning our wedding because of the annulment issues, though we're still doing the FOCCUS and pre-cana so that, God-willing, when/if it goes through, we're ready.

My question is for anyone that has been through the long annulment process (not for lack of form). How long did the process take once the witnesses had returned their questionaires and the 10 days had elapsed for any rebuttal from your ex? I just got something in the mail saying it was proceeding into the final steps toward a conclussion, but I have no idea what that means. I put a call through to the diocesan tribunal, but they were really vague.

Re: Annulment Question

  • I'm afraid its ont of those things that does vary from diocese to diocese. Sorry dolly.

It may be worth asking if there are any groups in the diocese for people going through the process for you to talk to?
  • FI is not only not Catholic, he's never been baptized AND he's been married before! Because he's not been baptized, we had to do a "short annulment".  We began the process in January 2011. All of the paper work on our end was 100% submitted by March 2011. We initially planned a Summer 2011 wedding, but our priest said we wouldn't have an answer from the Marriage Tribunal before Thanksgiving 2011.  We pushed our wedding to June 3. 2012, certain we would have a "yes" by now.  Guess what - we're still waiting!! When we've called the Tribunal they've said that we would have an answer in October, then it was January or February and now it's "sometime in April".  When FI has called (because I'm not allowed to) this month, the case worker has been "out of the office".....I'm hoping I'm the exception!  But I have to say, I now regret planning a wedding before we got an official "yes".  My wedding is in 39 days and, I worry that I'll soon have to make a decision on either A) Opt for a JOP wedding or B) Postpone the wedding - neither option appeals to me!!!
