Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul

This Saturday I am going dress shopping for the first time! My appointment is at the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul.  I was wondering if there is any advice from you girls who have either been there and dressed shopped??  I am so excited! :)

Don't get your alterations done there. Their sales department is pretty good, but their alterations depart is horrible. Make sure they have you going to the right area as well. A Line dresses and ball gowns are in a different spot then the straight dresses. Good luck with your search!!

I went there looking for bridesmaid dresses for my sisters wedding, it was an okay experince. They have just about every sample there so that makes it easier to figure out what looks good, what you like, etc.
But it was hard to find parking.

    Good luck!

I had a good experience.  My consultant let me look through some racks at first....we tried those on, and then she figured out what to pull based on my reactions.  We ended up finding the perfect dress and the perfect deal!  Very respectful of my budget.  I wish I could remember her name....ugh!  I've heard that some people have had bad experiences, but I have only good things to report.

I had a good experience.  I would definitely suggest bringing pictures from websites magazines so the consultant has an idea of what you want.  I think it's best to have two people with you, maybe mother and MOH.  It's not a big room and too many opinions get annoying.  Their selection is impeccable and they'll let you search and the consultant will search, too just give a price range.  Certain dresses get 15% discount I think  if you rent the tuxes there.  But FYI, they won't take the discount off the dress till you actually pay to rent the tux.

My dress shopping experience there was ok, but my bridesmaid dress shopping and picking up my dress experiences were HORRIBLE. If I knew what I know now, I would NEVER have bought my dress there. When we went to pick up my dress, we had no consultant. We stood in the dressing room for 15 minutes before I finally went and asked if I had a consultant or if should put the dress on myself. They said I could go ahead and do it myself. I learned that my consultant was in the next room over with a girl who had run over her appt. time. I had brought my own veil with, so I tried that on with the dress. The consultant happened to walk by my dressing room, saw my veil, and said that my veil was exactly what the bride next door was looking for. She then proceeded to take MY veil, that I had already purchased from another bridal store, off my head and let the other bride try it on. I was so mad, so we just got out of there ASAP. And it's funny, because when we went to try on BM dresses, we were basically told to leave RIGHT when our appointment was up, yet they couldn't tell this bride to leave, or the consultant couldn't tell her she had another customer to get to? That bride was there when we arrived and was still there admiring herself in her ugly dress when we left.

I will say they have an awesome selection of dresses. Honestly though, they don't have one-of-a kind dresses. If you find something you like, I would seriously consider shopping around.

I had a fine experience there. I agree with the PP that said to bring no more than a couple people. It is a very small shop, it is broken up into like 4 different houses. Also they don't let you wear your shoes in some of the areas so if any of your guests don't like to be bear foot in public suggest wearing socks...

I found the first dress I loved there but when I went to go back a second time to try it they had sold it... Not a big deal but it would have been nice to see it again. I ended up buying a different dress that I could try on again from a different shop.

I was nervous to go there because I had heard such mixed reviews on here an other places.  We got my dress there and BM dresses there.  I had nothing but a great experience all around.  I worked with Katy when buying my dress.  Like a PP said she let me pull a few I liked and based on that she brought me some more.  She nailed it because I had seen a girl trying on a dress that I LOVED and without saying anything to her, Katy brought me that dress and now it's mine :)

When we were shopping for BM dresses we worked with Anne downstairs everytime.  She was very nice and helpful!  I had zero problems with either of those purchases!

Parking is a pain pretty much anytime on the wknds. I would recommend going 20 mins early. The shops are in old houses, they have dresses in all the knooks and craneys. I hated my experience BM dress shopping there, I felt like they didn't give me the time of day because I purchased my dress from some where else. (Even though my uncle drove an hour to bring my cousins)... But I have since heard from here and IRL that they are like that regardless.

GL I hope yours is one of the good ones. It seems they are either really good or really terrible and highly inconsistent.

We had a bad expereience overall, they ordered my sister's dress a size to small on top of everything. not fitting into a wedding dress is scary stuff.

    Wear full underwear!!!

Seriously. I wore full underwear to all my dress appointments, and I was glad I did at the wedding shoppe. They had me in a room at the top of the stairs, and the fabric "covering" the door to my room was a joke, and there were plenty of people that could see all my business if they had so desired because I was the first room, and everyone had to walk by to get to the mirrors and their dressing rooms.  So I was super glad that my butt cheeks weren't hanging out as well.

Shopping for a wedding dress went fine for me.  I feel like they care more when you're the bride shopping for yourself.  But when you're the bride shopping with your BP?? It's kind of a joke.  When I went BM dress shopping with 3/4 of my BM my consultant greeted us and then just told us to go pick out some dresses.  We tried everything on without her.  I think all she did for us was take the dresses in the "no" pile and hang them back up.

Have fun! Like I said, I think bride appts go better.  Best advice I can offer is to trust your consultant!  I never would have picked a lace dress for myself, but she did and it was my dress :0)

My experience for my dress was great...happy with the help and selection. When we went there to look for a FG dress, not so much, was pretty much left to do everything on our own, and even though we had an appointment, they made us wait an extra 20 minutes until they gave us one of several open rooms that apparently were being reserved for a group of BM that we're coming into try dresses. Um, we had an appointment too...

I do know that for most all of my friends that are married, that's where they got their dress too.

I got my dress there and have continued to use them for BM dresses and tuxes. I laughed at the full underwear comment... I definitely agree! To anywhere you go!

Anyway, TWS is a great place to try on lots of dresses and be in a fun environment. It's busy but if you like others around to give opinions, it's great. They do have a lot of selection and really good price points. I love my dress! It was a trunk show one, though, so no chance of you finding it there now.

They've changed their rules and you can get a discount on your dress if you rent tuxes from them, but now they won't even give you that discount until the day of your wedding. I guess they had too many people get the discount and then cancel their tux order. (This could be avoided if they just asked for a tux deposit, but they don't.) Anyway, after some pursuasive conversations I got the discount.

    Good luck!

Yes, parking is a pain. And even if you get there 15 min before your appt like they suggest, you'll end up waiting to get in. I worked with Patty to find my dress, and  she was great. It felt like she was a long lost aunt! When calling to have my dress set aside for payment though, the girls were very rude. I found my perfect dress and am happy, but I'd be wary about going there again.

I was just there last Saturday and had a good experience.  My consultant, Liz, was newer to working in the bridal dept. as she normally worked in BM in the past.  But I kind of liked that because she really listened to me, wasn't pushy, and did her best to bring dresses that matched the pictures I showed her.  After awhile, I realized what I liked in the pictures did not really go with my body type.  Her and a colleague (whose bride cancelled) started bringing me more dresses that they thought would look good or would be fun to try on, all within my budget.  During this time, I found my dress and it looked nothing like the pictures I brought to show.  But I am so happy because it made me feel beautiful and I didn't want to let it go.  I was very happy with my consultant because she was more laid-back and did not try to push me in any one direction.

The one thing that was a little annoying was that there was this older woman working upstairs (possibly the boss) who was kind of pushy and kept changing the story of what I would be purchasing since mine was a sample.  She said no one else had worn my sample, but that she had another one brand new in-stock that she could sell for the same price, but then that story changed because I think someone else wanted to try it on so then she said I could only buy the sample.  So I would just be wary of anyone up there confusing you on what you are getting - make sure to ask questions!

I had a wonderful experience at the Wedding Shoppe.  My consultant was awesome (I wish I could remember her name!).  When I called to make the appointment I said I did not want any strapless dresses, and she had requested me based on that. She did a great job pulling stuff within budget, and helpign me make the right decision between teh final 2 dresses.  She also showed up when I picked up the dress to make sure everything was ok, and helped me figure out what type of undergarmetns would work best.

I had a really good experience.  It was my first place I looked for wedding dresses.  I tried a lot on and she told me I was hard to read but I did find one that I loved!  I went shopping somewhere else and then went back to the Wedding Shoppe to get "the one".  I also got bridesmaid and jr. bridesmaid dresses there and that went well too!
Definitley going in with some idea of what you want will be great and they will definitely get you in some other styles so you will know exactly what you like and don't like!

    Good Luck! Laughing

have you looked at Grace Bridal Boutique?  They are selling all their samples right now for a huge discount.  Also Flutter is amazing, I love the customer service there.

The Wedding Shoppe is a zoo, but they have a large selection.  I much preferred shopping at Grace.

I, too, had terrible experiences there, but you can't beat the selection.  I did not buy my dress there (didn't feel that the sales consultant listened to me) but we did get the bridesmaid dresses there.  Making sure all six bridesmaid dresses got ordered correctly was a huge fiasco.

If you are looking for an amazing dress experience try the Glass Slipper Bridal Salon in Andover, MN.

I posted the link below! The shop is tailored for Plus Sized Brides and they carry various sizes for the bridesmaids. It doesn't matter what your size is because they can order in any available size from the manufacturer.

I went to the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul for my sister-in-laws wedding and I didn't like it at all. It was a maze to get anywhere and the staff seemed more interested in gossiping at their counter than helping us.

I went with the Wedding Shoppe. I hear the mixed reviews, didn't have the ultimate experience, but found the dress of my dreams! I only went to one other salon, Bella Bridal, and wans't overly thrilled either. My advise, don't listen to other people's opinons about this, once you find the dress it wont matter where you buy it from. Good luck and have a blast!

I bought my bridal dress at WS.  I had a very good experience.  I brought about 25 pictures from their site of dresses I wanted to try on and my consultant pulled all of them and brought a few others.  I only had two people with me, which I think was perfect, based on the size of the room.  I came back a few months later to purchase my dress, and the consultant that helped me (she is the buyer there) was super sweet.  I feel like a lot of consultants can make plus sized brides like me feel self-conscious - but she was great.

Also, it gets really warm in the rooms during the summer (they only have window A/Cs).

Yes, it's a little nuts.  I had great service, though, so it was worth it.
