Thayer Hotel

Has anyone had a reception or been to a wedding at the Thayer Hotel? It is at the top of our list and we are wondering how easy (hard?) it is to deal with the security at West Point. Thanks!

I had my reception at the Thayer in April.  It really wasn't a problem with the security.  For the bridal party, we all handed our ID's to the limo driver to show to the guard.

I'm sure the guests all had to open their trunks, which is normal operating procedure for them.

**To be honest, I just had to as DH to be sure, because I didn't really remember- which is a good sign!

Thanks so much for responding! Since it is between the Thayer and another location I hope you don't mind me asking you more questions!

Were vendors able to get through security without issues? How was your overall experience? Did you enjoy the food? How was the staff to work with?

    Thanks again! : )

Thank you so much! That was very helpful and I feel so much better having something to go off of. I really appreciate your taking the time to respond so thoroughly! I still don't have a decision made but, maybe I'm closer...

    Thank you again! : )

I was married there a few years ago.  I would do it all over again, I just would have married another guy.
The sercurity wasn't a problem, we warned our guests.  We put an insert in our invites reminding them to bring id.  The grounds are so perfect.  It was a fall wedding and we had our ceremony outside overlooking the hudson with the leaves.
I know they just opened a roof top bar/restaurant.

Just visited the Thayer this weekend(we blocked rooms for our wedding and rehearsal Dinner will be there) and lots of updates are going on(new roof top bar and redo of guest rooms and ballrooms) so its looking good and zero issues with security (just bring ID) Just be careful of size we outgrew the Thayer and are having the reception in Eisenhower Ballroom.  Good Luck!

No problem!  I should've mentioned that I also included in my invitations a reminder to bring ID or there would be no admittance onto the grounds.  None of my guests had a problem at all!

</div><div>Yes, they're really good about getting access for the right people.  I believe its a 'dry' hotel if you're staying there, at least the last time I was there.</div><div>
</div><div>I also noticed they turnover staff regularly, which may not be a great sign</div>

    HI .

I'm also looking into Hotel Thayer for Fall.  What do you mean by dry hotel? I had asked if they have bars and lounges and seems they have quite a few. Do you mean in the rooms?

I also would LOVE more feedback. I'm looking for a somewhat affordable place but also with a classic feel..like Hotel Thayer. I was there years ago but like 10 years ago so I hardly remember what the rooms and ballrooms look like but I absolutely love the grounds. I'd love more feedback on hotel thayer.
