Monogram - need opinions!

So, I've started my first big DIY project!  I'm doing a practice round of my monogram aisle runner, and well... it's not going as I'd hoped.  In doing some research on how to do this better, I came across a different fond I like so much better for my big "S" - but can't seem to make it work the way I want it to.  I really like the font our names are in, but it doesn't seem to fit with the style of the "S".  Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!  If you have any suggestions for the font for our names, I'd be grateful too.  Here's the original that I was working with on my practice round:

The "S" would actually be solid, not the petals or whatever those are.  I just liked the shape of the "S" - sometimes in certain fonts, "S" can be so boring...  The decal is also a stamp my mom bought that we're going to use on the invitations.

Here's the one with the "S" I really like... but it doesn't go with the font I used for our names:

The font with our names (scriptina pro is the name) will probably be the one we use for our names on the invitations, but I haven't decided yet.  If I go with this one and don't use scriptina pro, I don't know if I want to use a script or typeface-type font.... ugh!!  I hate being a bit of a perfectionist sometimes...

Which do you like better/what font should I use for the 2nd one if I do that?

I may be back another time with color questions... lol!

Re: Monogram - need opinions!

  • I would use a non-script font for the names behind the S in the second one. Maybe something like HIgh Tower Text, Centabel Book, or Footlight MT Light. HIgh Tower comes with WIndows (I think) and I downloaded the other two on DaFont.com. If you don't like those, you can always look around DaFont.com for one you do like. I spend HOURS on that site looking for just the right fonts for everything. :)

    Hope that helps!
  • The first option feels very casual to me, but it could just be the colours.
The second option is way too loopy.
I think, like Walkers said, you need a non-script font for your names to decrease the loopiness, or at the very least, something plainer.

The vine-like detail in the left bottom is too far away from the rest of it too (in the second one) - it looks out of place to me, so if you go with the nicer S, I'd drop that detail since it just doesn't quite fit anymore and then move the date up just slightly.

  • I like the second one a lot, but I love loops and flourishes.

I have to say I really like the 2nd one as is. With the loopy look of the S I hardly even noticed the names in the back...matching or not I wouldnt change a thing on this one! Edit: I take it back..I would move the flourish to the corner of the runner to make it look like its "falling" off.

  • I do really like the second one.  Personally, I might off-set our names vertically a little bit so the center-section doesn't feel so cluttered.

  • The "S in the 2nd on is simple amazing!

PP about the second one would make this masterpiece great, esp Flutter's comments! Or you can have make your names a bit smaller, then put your name higher and right, his name down and left so that the "S" in is the middle. This fills up your white space a bit more and allows the "S" to stand out a bit more.

But either with what you have or my suggestion, I would also love to see this without the "&".
