NWR: gift for baptism

Hey ladies - just wanted to solicit your thoughts about a baptism gift!  A friend has asked me to be godmother to her 6 month old son, which I am thrilled and honored to do.  I have another godchild but her baptism was a LONG time ago so I'm rusty!  I was thinking along the lines of money (maybe a savings bond) and a keepsake like a silver baby cup, or maybe a child's bible.  Thoughts or suggestions?  TIA!

I think money / savings bond is definitely the way to go.

Plus, as the godmother, it would be nice for you to offer to pay for the baby's christening outfit.... I believe that's kind of customary, though not everyone does it.

I would give money, $50 is enough

I used to give bonds, but the interest is so bad on them it's just not worth it.

My go to gift for baptisms is a rosary from Things Remembered. You can get them in really pretty silver personalized boxes. Also, for every baptism in my family, the godfather always made the church donation, and the godmother bought the dress. We're baptizing our daughter next month and the godmother is buying her dress.

Another vote for an offer to buy the christening outfit/guest...also something religious like a rosary, bible, gold cross would be nice

Thanks everyone!  I'd never heard of the godmother-buying-the-outfit custom, probably because everyone in my family has used the dress that my grandmother made eons ago.  I'll talk to my friend about it, I'd gladly buy the outfit.
