Hotel Taxes

Does anybody know about how much hotel taxes are? I'm splitting a room at a convention with a friend and we're each paying $152 for 3 nights. (So the total for both of us for all three nights is $304.) I just like to have a good idea of what I'll be spending before I get the bill.

I just stayed in a hotel in Midland last night and the added taxes were around $15. We only stayed one night. HTH!

I worked at a hotel in college and the taxes on the rooms added up to 13%.

I know I'm late on this, but we typically guesstimate 15% and that's usually too much. You could probably call the hotel and get an exact amount.

Sorry if this is too late - it depends on your location.  Some places have local (city) as well as state hotel taxes.  You can either call the hotel to find out what the %s are, or else what I often do is find a hotel in the same area for which I can make an online reservation and cancel for free - usually in a confirmation they'll tell you the total amount including taxes.  And then once I have that info, I cancel that reservation (and keep the original one).
