Wedding Venue

Hello,
I am beginning our hunt for the right Wedding Venue. Toronto is a tough crowd, everywhere costs something to rent the space and it's a lot just to get a room. I found Whistler's Grille & The McNeil Room Toronto. Does anyone have any comments or concerns with this place. Any advise or suggestions are welcome as well!
Good luck to everyone!
Thanks

I don't know either of those places, sorry.

What's your budget?  And how many people are on your guestlist?  We might be able to give you other venue suggestions as well.  Do you want the venue to be right downtown or are you open to a bit of travel outside of the city?

I haven't heard about either of those places, but welcome to the board!

Just know that a lot of places will waive the rental costs if you use their catering services, so keep that in mind!  Do you have a date set yet?  Tell us about yourself.

My friend looked at Whistler's (I believe the McNeil room is their upstairs space) and suggested we take a look at it, but it didn't meet our need for ample free parking onsite and space for the ceremony as well.

When she looked (a few years ago), she said it had a great view of the cityscape over the DVP.  However, a condo has now gone in beside the DQ that towers over the cityscape, so your view will be homes, a sobeys, and a condo.

It definitely depends on your budget and what sort of feel you're looking for.  I also had a suggestion for the Granite Brewery.  I was told that it has a better vibe than what the pics online show, but my fiance didn't want to look into it further, and wanted a banquet hall type venue - we compromised on a historic house in Markham that meets our necessities (parking, a/c, ceremony onsite, visual appeal that fiance wanted).
Here's an example of the group menu http://www.granitebrewery.ca/cater/menu1.htm If you are interested in more info, click on the "groups" section to learn more for weddings.

    Good luck!

Well I am so new to this that I couldn't figure out how to find my forum topic! Found!
Thank you all for the help, I appreciate everyone welcoming me into this new exciting time!
We don't have an exact set budget. I have been to a couple weddings that were under $12,000 and were beautiful so if that's possible for us I would like it. Buuut we are willing to budge, I just don't want to budge on too many things or we will go way over.
Our numbers are around 135-150, our families are from all over the place so some of these people may not attend due to distance.
The reason I like McNeil room was the cost. It's free to use it and tables, chairs and dinnerware are included and the menu seems reasonable, under 45 per person (not including open bar). Also the space is nice looking, it's no The Berkeley , this place is beautiful.
I took a look online at Granite Brewery and I am not sure I like the look so much, but we have to go check it out to confirm.
Anyway, I could go on for hours talking about this, again I appreciate the feedback! :)
In the end we are looking to have a great party with our family and friends, if it means having it in a lower cost, maybe less beautiful place but saving a lot of money then we are willing to do it. I will keep in mind that some places waive the cost if we use thier catering.
This is so great, thank you everyone!
    Dianne
Ps. no set date but looking at June 2012.

Unfortunately Toronto is a pricey place.  Every single venue I looked at was pretty expensive.

Have you tried looking at restaurants that can accomodate a party your size?  I know that that can sometimes be a better way to go cost wise if you have the time to dig and find it.

I know at some halls/venues if you choose to do "family dinner style" serving instead of a buffet or full service it can greatly reduce the cost of your per head cost - ask them about that!.

Good luck on your hunt, I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work within your budget!

    HI, everyone.

My boyfriend is proposing soon and we've talked about budget and rings all that. Ive dreamt of having my wedding at The Four Seasons, but with our budget at $25000 max, i dont think we can pull that off even with a planned small wedding of 80-100people.

Ive looked at One King West and Rosewater, but they seem still pretty pricey. Ive fallen in love with photos at Graydon Hall Manor. Does anyone know of elegant, gorgeous venues with great food that are not as pricey?

I really appreciate all the help! Thanks!

Graydon Hall is beautiful, but you may find it pricey as well, because if I remember correctly, you have to rent everything, including glassware, silverware, get catering, seating, etc.  It's mainly just the venue you are using but they do have preferred vendors.  If you are trying to keep your price lower, all inclusive places are sometimes more reasonable.

    Welcome to the board!
  • Yes, I know the place and would suggest you DON'T book here.  The owner of the place is named Steve and comes across as being sincere, but he is just the opposite.  The guy is out to make a quick buck and will rush you in and out.  He does not care about your particular event, he cares more about your signature on a contract and downpayments.  I booked my wedding here and regret it!
