DIY or Coordinated

I'm having trouble deciding which road to take.  I have found venues that require a lot of rentals and setting things up yourself, which I imagine would cost less, but I dread the idea of being bogged down with all the little things the day of.  I've seen other venues where they have a wedding coordinator working with you and might lend itself to smoother sailing the day of.  Anyone else have this dilema?

Another alternative for places that require you to rent everything and do it all yourself is to hire a day-of coordinator to take care of it for you.  It is an extra expense, but can take a load off your mind with all of the little things that need to be done and set up!

For us, it was best to find a venue with a coordinator who could make recommendations and set everything up for us.  Truthfully, I think it's not much more, price wise, in many cases, and the peace of mind is worth it, in my opinion.  We also found that in Concord, at least, the places where you could DIY tended to be for smaller events, which affected our decision. I'd say if you're on the fence, look into both option, price out the costs, and be sure that you ARE saving enough money to make it worth the extra work. :)

I thought it would be less expensive to have a DIY wedding, but for me when I started adding things up, I found that it wasn't really that much more for the venue we chose (Castleton). Plus, the stress reduction will be well worth it. When I was looking into just renting a hall and having it catered, I found that the catering was a lot more $$ than I had ever thought! I suppose if you do potluck that would be a lot less $, but I read a horror story once about a food poisoning incident at a potluck wedding, and that really swayed me....
