Candy Buffet Help

We need to figure out a way to "label" the candy in the candy buffet.  Some of it is wrapped and the wrappers labeled, others are wrapped but not labeled on the wrapper, and others are loose.  We want to do little labels (about the sign of a business card), but can't figure out how to display it.

We have all sorts of different glassware (we wanted a very eclectic look, so we have high and low, tall and shallow, plain and fancy, etc).  We didn't want the "typical" candy buffet look, so we grabbed any and all glassware we could get our hands on.

I had originally planned on placing the little signs attached to the glass, with removable glue dots.  My mom pointed out though with the low glassware, it will look weird, since there is not a front to "attach" it too- and she's right, as much as it pains me to admit it Cool

Then we came up with the idea of doing tent cards and placing them in front each glassware.  But then, we have two problems.  One, what if someone knocks/moves the tent card from in front of the glass?  Two, we will use both sides of the buffet, so we would have to make double.

Then we came up with the idea of printing two signs, and would list all the candy on each sign.  We would place a list on both ends of the table, and no little labels for each jar would be used.  We aren't keen on this though, in case someone can't figure out exactly which candy is which, etc.

Finally, the last idea is to glue the little label/sign to a stick or bamboo skewer, and stick the end of the skewer into the candy itself.  We could do this with tall or low jars by cutting the skewer to the right length, and we could attach labels to each side of the skewer (by gluing them to each other), which then lets both sides of teh buffet see what it is.

Which do you think is best, both from a guest standpoint and a bride standpoint?  We do have candies, like Peanut MMs, that guests may need to be aware of. We also have candies that could be confused with each other (pretzel MMs versus regular MMs, for example) We also have some sugar free candy for guests who can't have the rest, and we want them to be made aware of that as well.  I thought about not doing signs/labels, but with those things, we really need to.  Do you have another idea for labeling each individual jar?

Thank you so much ladies!

As I began reading this, the first thing that popped into my head was little signs attached to skewers or toothpicks.  And then I saw you mentioned it!  I say try that out.  Of course, you'll want to try and make sure the signs aren't too top heavy that they may tip over out of the glass if the candy volume drops.  What about something like this:

You could also do signs that the jars rest on... the sign would be a piece of paper (beautifully decorated, of course) with the name of the candy on it... and then the jar would rest on top of it.  You wouldn't have to worry about the sign getting knocked out, or the jar toppling over from too much weight on one side.  It doesn't need to be a full piece of paper, obviously.... just something large enough to be noticeable, but small enough that it wouldn't get cluttered.  I would suggest something that's as wide as the jars you're using.

IMO you're over thinking it.  If you're buying common candy (from BJs/Costco), most people will be able to identify what it is without a sign.  I think its taking an extra step to label them all, but not necessary... unless you're doing flavored jelly bellies and you can't tell the flavor by the color, etc.

ETA:  I saw your comments about peanut M&Ms and sugar free candy needing labels... why not just label those that are necessary?

I agree with Hil for the most part. Try and keep the obvious candy in the low glass jars and then label the jars with the ambiguous candy. Btw...you're candy bar sounds like its going to be fabulous. I can't wait to see pics of the finished product.

i think i agree that signs for the obvious candy might be overdoing it...i think i would just put ones for the loose candy and with peanuts etc...i like the bamboo skewer idea!
