Question on flowers

How much did you pay for your flowers? I'm especially interested in those of you having a fairly large amount of flowers at your wedding. I ask because I made the (HUGE) mistake of quoting a price to a florist when she asked me what my budget for flowers was instead of leaving the ball in her court, and I think I told her WAY too much - I was dumb and didn't really research before meeting with her. Embarassed I looked at some books and websites tonight, though, that are quoting "average" prices for wedding flowers far below what I told the florist yesterday. I realize that I will probably have more than the "average" amount of flowers at my wedding, but the difference between the "averages" I saw and what I said to the florist is so huge that it leads me to believe I still quoted much too high a price. As such, I feel like there's a really good chance that I'm going to get reamed on cost by this florist, so I'm just going to start the process over with another one and hopefully not screw myself this time!  Here's what I need:

-Bridal bouquet
-6 bridesmaids bouquets
-11 boutonnieres (groom, 6 groomsmen, 3 dads, and one grandfather)
-4 corsages (three mothers and one grandmother)
-Petals for the aisle (would like to have a fairly thick layer going up each side of the aisle, with the majority of the aisle petal-free)
-8-10 small arrangements for ceremony chairs
-Vine-and-flower arch for the end of the aisle
-10-12 centerpieces
-Two short garlands (one for each of the two railings on a short [3 step] stairway)
-Flowers for the cake

My wedding is at the end of September, so I am hoping for brightly colored flowers that evoke fall - oranges, peaches, yellows, etc. (a limited amount of red, since the BM dresses are red and I don't want them to look like a bucket of blood has been poured over their heads!). I like calla lilies (the orange-y ones), roses, peonies, etc, but I'm not stuck on having any flower in particular in the arrangements.  Putting some fall-colored leaves in the table arrangements or on the arch could be nice, too. One thing I know I DON'T want, however, is daisies of any kind.

Anyway, any insight you guys might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated.  I don't want to foul this up a second time!

Thank you for all your help, ladies!! Cool

Hey! The amount and type you are describing sounds similar to my plans... We are using floral cottage and the flower budget is 4,000 dollars. Good luck!

Was $4000 what the florist quoted you? And if $4k was the quote, would you mind sharing with me the cost of your arch?  I still haven't gotten the quote yet from the first florist I talked to, so I'm still not quite sure what to expect... Thanks!! :-)

It was her quote and actually a little less than what I told her my budget was..made me trust her more, you know? I don't have a breakdown of each thing..we aren't having the arch but two enormous arrangements for the altar instead...I would guess fairly similar pricing?

    Gotcha, thanks pinkm!

Is there anyone else out there who would mind sharing the price of their arch with me? I'm really curious about this istem in particular because it seems like it's probably the most labor- and flower-intensive thing on our list - so I'm wondering what a fair price is because it seems like the arch is the thing they probably have the most room to pad the cost on.

    Thanks, everyone!

WOAH 4K? Thanking our lucky stars my FI cousin is a florist and giving us an amazing deal for all our flowers. We could NEVER afford something like that.

We're not having an arch, but we're having a chuppah, which is similar. I believe the florist quoted us $1,000+ for this. My FI is very handy so he will be building it and she will be decorating it. I'm not sure yet what this will be costing, but probably closer to $300-400.

Try Toad Lily at the Burgeven in KIngston. They quoted us a price was under what some of the other florists we went to gave us and their work is lovely.
