Bridal Shower Timing

Howdy. I did a search on this topic and didn't find anything recent, so I thought I'd ask around.

I am getting married Sept. 4 in my hometown, across the country from where I live now. My sister (not in WP) has continually asked me about having a family shower before the wedding. My stepmom is extremely anti-shower (other reasons). I have talked to my MOH and am not sure what I want to do.

The dilemma (besides the family crap) is the timing. I don't get in town until 4 days before my wedding, so I couldn't do a shower until Sept. 1. I don't know if I'm able to get out of them doing one, but I keep thinking it seems too close together to the actual wedding. I know showers are for gifts and all, but I don't want to seem greedy.

    If you don't want the shower just tell your sister or whoever is offering to host that you would prefer not to have a shower.  It's fine.
