Outdoor ceremony music

The last post about music got me thinking...

Has anyone been to an outdoor wedding where music was played through a computer/ipod through the speakers? Did it sound okay?

I think we want live music, possibly a guitar and violin? But if that doens't work out we might just use a music player, like an iPod. Any thoughts?

If you are having an outdoor ceremony, what are you doing? Live music or no? And if it is live what instruments are you using?

Sorry, lots of questions. TIA :)

Re: Outdoor ceremony music

  • I am having a very short ceremony, and I don't have any money left in my budget for ceremony music, so I am planning on setting up and ipod with speakers.

  • I've been to a few weddings where they used an ipod with speakers and it sounded just fine. I would sample it if you can prior, maybe in your backyard just to make sure that the version of the song you are playing sounds ok turned up a bit.

  • Our DJ was going to charge us 250 more bucks to do the ceremony.  In order to save some money we've decided just to use an ipod with the speakers we are renting for the ceremony.  I'm hoping it works out, I can't see it being horrible.

  • My ceremony will be outside and we will not be having live musicians. My DJ said he would set something up for the ceremony and take care of the music for the entire day. He said he has done it before for other weddings and it worked out perfecly so I trust him!

  • We will be having the DJ do the cermony as well.  Hopefully it wont look weird.

  • Awesome. Thanks for all the answers ladies. Really helpful :) It's good to know that iPods/DJ for an outdoor ceremony isn't a big deal! Now I have some decisions to make.

  • I have been been to a wedding where a computer played the music through speakers.  As long as everything is hooked up (and tuned) correctly it sounds fine.
Live music will always sound better (unless the musician play poorly).

Live music wasn't an option for us with our budget and everyone I know who plays an instrument we'd use is either being the officiant, myself, or will not be there due to military obligations.
With that, my DJ is hooking up his system to the outside speakers my venue has.  I tested out the speakers with my ipod one day and it sounded really good.  I know my DJ can properly "tune" his sound board as well so I'm not concerned about it.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Outdoor ceremony music : Our DJ is in a band and plays the guitar so we are having him play at the ceremony.  Have you picked out songs you want the guitar player to play?  Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

I haven't picked out my songs yet.  I think canon in d is very pretty on the guitar, but haven't decided for sure.
