Shutterfly guest book?

The post about what we have left to do got me thinking. We ended up getting a shutterfly guest book for our wedding, but I'm not sure what kind of pens to get. We may just end up going to an art supply store and seeing if they have ideas, but I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen/used a shutterfly book for a guest book? Any ideas what works best?

Re: Shutterfly guest book?

  • We're doing a Shutterfly guest book as well. We're using purple pens since our colors are lavender and lemon.

  • Are you just getting regular ballpoint though? or sharpies?
  • I would think sharpies would work better on that type of page material.
  • FI got one of those books for his birthday from FMIL.  They have sort of glossy pages where I would be worried about smearing.  I'd test a variety of either gel, ballpoint, and sharpies.  Sometimes just a run-of-the-mill BIC is the best choice!

  • Were doing the shutterfly guest book, were using the thin sharpies. We tested it out on a book that my sister gave me a few years back on the very last page, and it seems to work good.

We also have a shutterfly guest book. and you will want something acid free, fade resistant fast drying and won't smear.

I had read that the sharpie pens would work, but in my experiment it didn't dry fast enough and ended up smearing. So after some research we are using "Slick Writers" fine point pen, i ordered them from amazon, but you may be able to find them in a craft store. We tried them out and they worked great, dried fast and didnt smear, and the packaging sts wont fade and acid free.

    good luck!

  • I would suggest anything w a felt tip might smudge! there paper is a bit glossy. sample it out first. I would think a normal pen would be best.

  • Ooh, good question! We have a photo guest book from Snapfish. We bought fine point colored Sharpies for Thank You notes and such, but they didn't work so well on a birthday card I wrote out last night for my BM. I want to avoid using a ballpoint pen, though, so I can hopefully avoid having imprints in the paper.

My quick Google search for "Slick Writers" pen found it at Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics, in addition to Amazon, although it looks like they're only available online. Guess I'll have to plan ahead and order soon!

  • Thanks for the advice all! Maybe I can coerce FI and my mom to head to the art supply store Saturday while Dad and I are dancing to get a pen. If not, I'll definitely look into ordering one of those slick writers!
  • *** I meant to say I WOULDN'T suggest anything w a felt tip. They tend to need a bit longer to dry. You need something that doesn't have drying time other wise it could look sloppy.

    I love this idea though!
