Illinois-Chicago

Newbie Knottie

Hello ladies!  I've been looking through the Chicago threads for a bit and thought I'd introduce myself.  I'm Laura.  My FI and I got engaged about two months ago and we're about to say our first "I Do" in 35 days!  We're both military and are currently stationed apart from each other, he's in Germany and I'm in Korea.  He's coming to visit me next month and we're going to have a civil ceremony at the US Embassy in Seoul =)

My FI is from Chicago (I've been once and absolutely fell in love!) so it was a given that we'd have the ceremony for family and friends there.  That date has been set for 5 Oct 2012.  We've narrowed down our reception site, Fulton's on the River, but we're still discussing which church to have the ceremony at.  Since I'm not from the area, I'll definitely be asking a lot of questions about local vendors.

It's nice to "meet" you all and I look forward to chit chatting about getting married in the windy city!

Welcome and congratulations!  I hope that you find this board as supportive, friendly, and helpful as I have!  Honestly, with the exception of DJ (family friend) and invitations (family friend), every.single.one of my vendors has come from recommendations from this board!

    Congrats!!
RE: Churches to get married in: Years ago, my friend wanted to get married and she and her fiance were different religions, and neither was a member of a church. They found aCommunity church in Chicago Ridge that was quite willing to marry them even though they weren't members. The pastor thought it was best they marry in a church, and he saw no point in making that hard for them. Look around for churches with "Community" in the name as they may be open to your request.

You might also look for chapels rather than a church. There's one in Palos Heights(The Wayside Chapel), and I'm sure there are more around. Check the Yellow Pages under "chapels".

Also if you are looking for a photographer please take a look at my work here: www.freshinlove.com

    Cheers and happy planning!!
