Just Engaged and Proposals

Birthday Wedding?

So I just got engaged 3 weeks ago and we are trying to set a date. We have decided to have a long engagement because we will be paying for the wedding ourselves and need time to save. We are probably getting married in Kaua'i, HI since that's where I'm from, so all the more reason to take our time to save. We are thinking about 2014 and I was wondering what you other brides think about having the wedding on my birthday. I won't go into detail, but  I have this strange attachment to the number 527, aside from my bday being on may 27. I was thinking this could be a great date for a wedding/anniversary considering it tends to fall on Memorial Day weekend, which could turn out to be great for anniversay vacations, plus he'd only have one date to remember. We don't get extravagent with bday gifts & plans anyways, so I don't know that I would feel the need to have my own special day. This could also be a good weekend for friends and family to take vacation time to travel to Hawai'i for the wedding. What do you think?

Re: Birthday Wedding?

  • I think that is totally up to you guys. If you both think it's a good idea, go or it! My fiance and I planned ours for this Nov. 13. I know the 13th right!? But we liked the date and this is a day of a solar eclipse (we are both love space stuff! lol). This date is also 2 days before my birthday. I could care less about my birthday these days. My wedding anniversary will top my bday year after year! LOL
  • As long as you're BOTH okay with the date, then why not?

I've always wanted my wedding to be on the relationship anniversary, and nowhere near either one of our birthdays so as not to take away from our special days. My husband and I got together on May 1st and his birthday is May 7th. After much debating, we decided to go ahead with a May 1st wedding. My husband was fine with our wedding anniversary being close to his birthday (he's not big into his birthday really), but leading up to the wedding, he said "My 25th birthday is being totally overshadowed by my wedding!" Little did he know, I had planned to surprise him at the wedding with a birthday cake and have all of our guests sing Happy Birthday to him. He loved it! And since we plan to vacation each year for our anniversary, I plan to do something special on his birthday while we're away, like a dinner or excursion. I also get him one BIG gift for his birthday and our anniversary. All of it is more for my own satisfaction than his (I'm big on birthday's). Do what makes you both happy.

  • My parents were married on my dad's 25th birthday, and he has always loved it. When he turned 50 and they had their 25th wedding anniversary, they threw a huge party and it was so great. My mom has always been great about presents/celebrations, so he never felt that it was bad.
When we got engaged, H's birthday the next year fell on a Saturday, and it was his 30th! So we asked my parents how they have liked it, and that's when my dad expressed how much he loved it, so that's what we decided to do!
After the reception toasts, an impromptu Happy Birthday song was sung, and then the band took their cue and sang Birthday by the Beatles. It was so much fun, and H loves that he will never forget his anniversary.
Honestly, I'm just so glad we did it, not only because it's a family tradition, but because it's so neat!
  • I think it's a super cute idea. Go for it!

  • If you want it... definitely go for it.

  • My parents got married on my dad's 25th birthday and my dad always jokes it made remembering easier for him.  It got ironic when we got our family dog and learned that the dog's birthday was also the same day as my dad's and my parents anniversary so for several years there were 3 things to celebrate.
  • My uncle got married on his b-day about 30 years ago.  Hasn't forgotten an anniversary yet!

  • Thanks for sharing  guys,

So as of yet its still up in the air. But I was discussing it with one of our mutual friends and he brought up a good point. Since the wedding is taking place in Hawai'i, if we have it on a Memorial day weekend, or any holiday weekend for that matter, flight prices are going to sky rocket. Since many of our guests will be flying, that's definitely something I should consider. His bday is May 7th & mine is the 27th, maybe we'll get married smack dab in the middle on his mom's bday, the 17th. That could be trouble, haha.

    SAME FOR ME!
  • super cute idea! I originally wanted me wedding on 10/26/2013 - my fiance's 30th birthday. But the date was booked so we had to change it to the weekend before.

Now your birthday will be extra extra special each year. :)

We got married 1 day after my husband's birthday and he says the same thing!
  • The flights thing is a very real concern, but generally I don't think birthday wedding is a bad idea. I wanted ours on my fi's birthday (the day he was born is my favourite day for obvious reasons) but he wanted to move it to the day after. He wanted our wedding to be special and not share with his birthday, haha!
