Groomsmen gifts

I'm working on the groomsmen gifts today, and wanted to know if this is okay...

I was thinking of getting them all something called "man soap" b/c they are all burly "I'm so manly" men. With it, I wanted to add deoderant and then either shaving oil and after shave or beard oil (all by the same company) depending on their facial hair situation. I know women like to get bath products, but do men? Is it like I'm saying you stink take a bath before you show up?

I was also going to throw in some whiskey, a toblerone, and a few other things I pick up between now and then. I was also going to throw in a small bottle of jager as a joke. I love it and they all hate it, but somehow I have gotten every single one of them drunk off of it.

Anyway, any thoughts on the soap and deoderant? Suggestions on other items to add in?

Re: Groomsmen gifts

  • I would skip the cleaning products.  If someone gave me soup and deorderant I would take offence.

  • I think your idea combined with other little things (alcohol/candy) sound great but... why isn't your fiance deciding what to get his groomsmen? It sounds like you're all pretty good friends, but I'd think he would want to play a larger role in deciding?

He is too busy trying to find us a place to live. Plus, he can't buy stuff where he is and get it here. At least, not legally. (He had to move for a job a couple of weeks ago.)

I asked him what he wanted to get them and he said he didn't even know we were supposed to get them gifts. That is the last time we talked about it. I'll run it all by him again before I do anything though.

    That was my concern...
  • My first thought was that if they are "manly men" they probably wouldn't know what to do with so many bathing products, lol. I like the alcohol idea since its kind of an inside joke that they'd enjoy, but I might skip the soap simply because they may not ever use it (not that they don't bathe but as I said, men can be clueless about beauty products).
  • I see. Yea, I'd get his input one more time before moving forward. I would not JUST get the guys soap, but honestly paired with alcohol (always a winner haha), I think it's okay.
  • Yeah I would skip the cleaning products, it's kind of a weird wedding gift...maybe for a birthday or something...what about a pocket knife or something?
  • I think it's a nice gesture, but I would also skip the cleaning products. Not to sound mean, but I really think your fiance should put the groomsmen gifts together since they are his attendants - unless you are having some guys stand up for you, which is perfectly fine! I also know some fiances can't get it together (I've been pushing FI a lot to try to make some of said decisions) but he should take ownership if they are his attendants.
  • How about fancy flasks?
