October 2012 Weddings

If you've had your shower already come here!

My shower is next weekend. I just found out that my BMs didn't put the registry info on the invitations. As far as I know my SM has been telling people where we're registered when they call to RSVP but so far only like 5 things have been purchased. This probably sounds really terrible but I'm scared I'm going to end up with a whole bunch of stuff I didn't register (and might not be able to return).

If you stalked your registry how soon before your shower did people really start to buys stuff? Did you get a lot of stuff off your registry that was still listed as available (ie people forgot to tell the cashier to take it off)?

Re: If you've had your shower already come here!

  • In my experience, a lot of people buy their gifts 1-2 days before the shower. And a couple of my registries never updated on their own. Some things still showed that I still needed them weeks after the shower.

  • My Bridesmaids also forgot to put them in the invitations and spelled my name wrong on the invite. No worries... people still came and brought gifts. Most of them didn't shop until 1 -2 days before, some even the day of.

  • Ok, this makes me feel a little better.

  • Most of mine didn't buy until one or two days before. Some day of, apparently, ha.

  • No one bought anything off our registry, even now. I had two small showers, one with my mom's family in another province (my dad's side and FI's side live too far away), and one here with my bridesmaids and a couple other friends. I don't really get the big deal about getting gifts that aren't on the registry. I even tell my friends they don't have to buy off it if they don't want, and can just use it as inspiration for the style of things we like.

  • I got some gifts from my registry but I still had about a third of my gifts that people bought that were not on my registry.  It depends on the people but I don't think people bought gifts until about a week before.  The worst scenario is you get a lot of money!
  • Most of my gifts weren't purchased until a day or two before. There were a couple that were, but for the most part, I was worried too! A couple of the gifts didn't show up as purchased until after the shower, either.

  • I had 3 showers (very fortuenate)  Not proud of saying but i stalked my registry.  Folks didn't by anything until 2-5 days prior to the the shower.  Some even bought the day of.  I wouldn't worry about. Don't worry about it. it's nice to check about 1 day before cause you see all the stuff that was purchased.

  • I had a combined shower/bachelorette party, so not many people brought gifts. Those that did didn't buy them from the registry. I haven't stalked mine for a few days but when I did (after the shower) there was nothing purchased from them. However, the gifts that I did get were awesome, even if they weren't on the registry. I know several of the people who came to the shower said they'd bring a gift to the wedding.

  • I agree with the other posts, and I admit to stalking my registry. People usually went shopping a couple days before the shower. And there were some "day of" purchases. (We've all been there - life gets crazy busy). I love that Bed, Bath and Beyond has a wrapping station in the store. They get most of my business for wedding gifts because of that.

If you have a wedding website, maybe you could put your registries on there to help get the word out.

  • Yep, a lot weren't purchased until right before.  And I did get several things not on the registry and they were really neat!  Just try to stay off of the registry sites and enjoy your shower!!

  • I kind of stalked the registry, only because I had already knonw a lot of the stuff I was getting, thanks to Fiance, but I was still excited about get the iron. I did have some gifts that were not on the registry, but they are still useful. Most of the stuff actually was not off the registry until the day of (Fiance checked not me) or even until the day after.

  • My registry cards were included in the shower invites, but I really didnt want to know ahead of time what I was getting. Even though my registry cards were given to the guests, I was really suprised at the variety of gifts I recieved that werent on the list. It actually really worked out well, though! I got some really great, creative gifts that I might not have asked for, but still loved! Plus, we got a lot that we did ask for as well, so it all worked out. I wouldnt worry too much about it. Its pretty commonly known to give a gift receipt with your gift, so if you get a lot of dud gifts, you shouldnt have too many problems returning them. Good luck, and have fun!
