Reception Schedule

We are trying to set the start and end times for our ceremony and reception, and I'm unsure how long the reception should be.  It is an afternoon reception with light finger foods and cake, but we will not be having any dancing.  Is a 3 1/2 hour reception too long for just light food and socializing?  We will be having cake cutting and bouquet and garter toss to fill a little bit of time.  Any advice is helpful!

Re: Reception Schedule

  • I think 3 1/2 hours is plenty for that kind of reception.  It might help to sort of plan out what times you want things to happen (understanding that your times will have to be pretty flexible).

Are you having absolutely no dancing, or will there be a first dance as a couple, and parents/children dances?  That might also fill some time.

I think if you have an intimate group, there will be no problem filling that time frame.

  • In my opinion, It could be a tad long with no dancing...our reception was 3 hours, and we had dancing. That said, I wish it would have been longer! We only did toasts, cake cutting and the first dance, we opted to bot do bouquet and garter tosses, etc.
