  • I think it really depends on the type of wedding you are wanting.  When I think of family style I think of something a bit on the casual side, while with a plated meal you are looking at something more formal.

I honestly like the idea of family style and think that it would be a great way to get everyone to interact with each other.  Would you be having long rectangular tables as opposed to rounds?

  • They are actually square tables.

  • The only thing I would be worried about is the amount of space available on the table, especially after you put your place settings, centerpieces, etc on the table.  I am sure it would work but I guess it depends on the variety of food provided (not type but amount).  Like if you provided a basic meal (meat, starch, veggie) then it would be fine but if you were offering 3 meats, 3 starches and 3 veggies the serving platters could possibly overwhelm the table.

  • Whatever you choose is a personal preference.

I personally prefer buffets, as guests get what they want on the buffet, as much or as little as they choose to eat. We had a buffet.

I have been to weddings with family style service, where platters or bowls of food (boneless chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, veggies) were passed around. The down side to this is that the tables end up with a lot of plates in the middle.

Plated dinners are nice, but even with choices of main meat, or whatever, you have a lot of work to do to make sure each guest gets what they want (colored place cards, etc), and you get just one serving.

I'm an "all you can eat" type of gal, LOL.
