Thursday Question of the Day?!

What is going to be your 1st dance song? Why did you choose it, and will anyone be surprised that you chose it?

We haven't chosen yet, but I think it will be the Flaming Lips version of "Do You Realize?". Some people think its morbid, but I think its gorgeous, and it is all about appreciating people when they are in your life, before they leave it. I still have to convince FI that we need to dance in the first place, though. He's not a dancer at all.

Saliva's Always has been "our" song since we started dating pretty much. He really wants it as our first dance song (so do I) but it isn't appropriate. Most likely we will have a Beatles song since I love them (I have been listening to the Beatles since I was in my moms womb). Coldplay is another option so is Maria Mena.

We have just recently decided to use Like A Star by Corrinne Bailey Rae, I've loved this song since I've heard it. My finace doesn't really care what it is. But our other choices were, When a Man Loves a Woman by Micheal Bolton or Feet Don't Touch the Ground by Stoney Larue.

This has yet to be finalized. The top picks are:
    1) Ray Lamontagne - "You Are the Best Thing" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAVR1SbW9fU (i love this one bc it starts out with a BANG and i think its a good way to kick off a PARTY!)
    2) Brad Paisley - "Then"
    3) Keith Urban - "Only You Can Love Me This Way"
    4) Brad Paisley - "She's Everything"
    5) Dave Matthews Band - "Crush" (might be very difficult to dance to, the tempo almost switches up)

Here is our list of possibilities:

Our song is Like a Star by Corinne Bailey Rae (yay Jedaniel!) but I think it may be too slow to dance to so we're still thinking about it.

    Other top choices
Ray Lamontagne- You are the Best Thing or Let it Be Me OR Hold You in My Arms (I love all his songs)
Keith Urban- Only You Can Love Me This Way (laleighmoore our lists are similar)
    John Legend- Stay With You
Ben E King- Stand By Me
Maroon 5 cover of Bill Wither's Lovely Day
    Cat Power- Sea of Love
    Michael Buble- Everything
    Snow Patrol- Chasing Cars
    Aqualung- Brighter than Sunshine

Ugh, I can't decided, too many choices!!

Ours was "Heavenly Day" by local artist Patty Griffin.

Ours will be "All the Way", the duet version of Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion. A former roommate of mine gave it to me one night and I fell in love with it. Surprisingly my FI likes it too. The lyrics are just perfect. It will probably be a huge shock to our reception attendees though because I don't think anyone would expect it to be our style.

I think ours is probably going to be "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go" by George Strait.

We just met with our DJ last night and we haven't selected any songs yet. We have some work to do this weekend!

    BabyBlue - I hope you're feeling better.

Ours is only you can love me this way. Saying I'm obsessed with Keith Urban is a complete understatement. Last year I was keeping an "ear" out for a first dance song and I was thinking...I wish there was a Keith Urban song but couldnt think of one. I put his new CD in and found this song and was like OMG...but I didn't think FI would go for it because my Keith obsession gets on his nerves sometimes ha...but when he heard the song he thought it was perfect too! We picked it before it became a single on the radio and when it did we thought about changing it but we just love the song so much that we don't care!

I am doing better. I had a doctor completely misdiagnose me, and send me to a specialty doc for no reason, but other than that... doing better. I am not completely healed yet, but any improvement is good news to me! Thank you for caring.. so sweet of you.

Who is this Ray guy? I just heard some of his music on grooveshark.com, and he is pretty amazing. I have never heard of him! Personally we have not even gotten close to selecting a song, but it will probably be country. :)

And Twink--- That has to be my most absolute favorite George Strait song ever. It is really difficult to find though. What a perfect Waltz!! I love it.

Cross Canadian Ragweed: Flowers.  Short, sweet, and not too sappy.  Love it.

From Pence-- that is a really unique selction. Never heard it before, but just looked it up. Almost like a Norah Jones but more soulful and rich. I like that!!

We don't take first dances too seriously, and in fact I think (no offense to anybody) but that for us, it would just be kind of dumb.

    But my mom insisted.

So, as a joke, we were going to dance to I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For by U2. FI loved the idea, but we are throwing around random options still.

Instead of a first dance, H sang/played a song to me on his guitar. He did Randy Travis "Forever and Ever" but with more of a Ryan Adams-type sound. It was my favorite part of the whole wedding experience.

All of the songs mentioned are great! Ray Lamontagne "You Are the Best Thing" is such an awesome song! We talked about this as our recessional but actually went with Hall and Oates "You Make My Dreams Come True" lol

    Pink: Glitter in the air

    I love the lyrics!

Thanks BabyBlue! Ya..I wasn't sure about it at first, because it's kinda racy! lol..."Let your hair fall accross your breast..show me the warmth of your soft caress,"  BUT...the chorus is really sweet and my FI doesn't think people will be paying attention to the lyrics. lol.

Kelsey...that's so cute that your H serenaded you! :) I was considering serenading my FI, but I'm scared, and I'm afraid it might be cheesy. I was thinking of doing "When You Say Nothing At All" by Allison Krauss

believe it or not FI an i are still back and forth about this one lol.....we will have to agree soon though ;)

Twink--- Just because it says breast--- doesn't mean it it racy. The chest area of men's shirts are often called the breast area-- and I think he is merely saying-- Girl let your hair down--- and let's cuddle!!! :) I love it!! I think it is a GREAT choice. As far as you singing... I say go for it. I will probably do the same. Even if you are not perfect, weddings are the time to be cheesy. Romance is allowed on all levels, so if you ever wanted to take the opportunity to serenade him, it would be at your wedding.
