Memorial Candle

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I can't seem to find it.  Are any of you all doing a memory candle or something similar?  I'd like to do something small to honor FI's dad and our grandfathers, but I don't want it to be too sad.  Would it be appropriate to have a candle on the alter and have our mothers light it after they light the the candles for our unity candle?  This is what FMIL suggested.

Re: Memorial Candle

  • We are having small votives for the people we are honoring/remembering. My brother will light the 3 for my family after he sits my mom and FI's brother will light the 4 for his family after he sits their mom

  • We are having a single rose in a bud vase for FI's mom and making a note of it in the program.

We'll take said rose to the reception and place it by a picture of her.

  • We are getting a rose for every person who is unable to join us. I will probably sink them and light a floating candle with a pic frame saying:
To honor those who are with us in spirit
    Gramma
    Gramma
    Gramma
    Auntie
    We will always love you.

Or something like that.. IDK the wording yet.

  • We're having one.

It's called a Pascal candle in the Methodist church and it will already be lit before the ceremony and there will be a special note of it in our programs. It will honor my paternal grandfather, maternal grandmother, FI's paternal grandparents, and his maternal grandfather.
  • I can't have candles at my venue.
I did little pictures to attach to my bouquet and then at the reception I have a vase with all their names and a little saying; I will put my bouquet in that.
  • We have an outside wedding but we are  going to set up a small table for a memorial candle for my father. My neices will light it before the ceremony even starts and it will burn throught he ceremony. A note will be placed in the programs.

I didn't realize it had a name!  That's cool.  We are also Methodist.  Is it supposed to be lit prior to the service?
