Rehearsal Dinner...What are you doing? What to you think?

Just wondering what everyone's plans are for the rehearsal dinner?

From the beginning my FMIL said she wanted to host at her home, which I am okay with.  My FI and I had requested more of a low-key event with more casual food since it will be at their home it made more sense since there will be 35-45 people.  We're less than a month away my FI and I have been asking her the plans and she just says she is working on it.  This past weekend she gave us several menu options that she thinks she can make for the dinner.  She asked the FI awhile back about doing this but he told her no and she hasn't brought it up since.  My FI and I feel like this is a very bad idea because no matter what time she plans on dinner it is always much later than the time originally planned, plus there will be a lot of people there.

We're okay with her making things that can be prepared ahead of time, I can just imagine her being stressed and it taking forever to eat if she makes everything.  How do we talk her out of making all this food...she has already mentioned "it is easy for you to spend my money for me" and "I don't even need to get your approval"?  I just don't want to eat at 9pm when the dinner is supposed to start at 7:30.  We really do appreciate FI parents hosting the dinner for us but we don't agree with the current plans.

We are doing our rehersal dinner at my parent's house because it is just easier and does not cost too much money. We were thinking of getting something catered in like chipotle or some pasta places. You could always do lasagna that is easy and it can be made ahead of time and most people like it.

Spaghetti Warehouse is our top pick. You can it for as little as $13.50/pp and it includes dinner, drink, tax and gratuity. :)

We were going to do Spaghetti Warehouse as well, until we realized that the room we had reserved (upstairs) wouldn't work because our officiant's wife is in a wheelchair. We had to cancel our reservations because that was the only room available that would fit all of the people. SOOOO....we just booked another venue this past weekend....The 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant, which is right on the runway at the Port Columbus Airport. It's actually even better than our first choice as it has a WWI theme and fits our 1920's-30's theme :) Couldn't be more excited about it!

We are going to Tony's Italian Restaurant.  Soooo excited.

For my sister's rehearsal, we just had a cook out.  Is that something she'd be interested in?  I agree, you should try to convince her to do things that she can make in advance (or at least most of it).  Does she have relatives that will help out?

We're doing ours at Oscar's of Dublin in their Wine Room.  I haven't been there yet since I live out of state, but my mom went and she said it's a really nice room.  You can pick certain things off the menu if you don't want to spend a bunch of money.  I think the average meal is about $16.

I agree with the others...if she can make something like lasagna that can be made ahead of time then she should be fine.

We also booked the Spaghetti Warehouse. I loved the price at $13.50 per person and how it included drinks, tax and gratuity. Plus its close to our venue downtown.

We had talked about doing something more low key like having a cook out at someone's house. Ultimately we didnt want to mess around with the cooking, clean-up, etc with everything else going on.

Maybe ask the MIL about having food brought in or specifically requesting dishes you and your fiance like that can be prepared in advance. I'd stress to her the importance of the time you need to have everything finished that night and your concern about getting to bed early for your beauty rest and people traveling, etc. Good luck!

Mi FI an I wanted to do a brewery and Barleys won.... but it sounds like that is too late for you. I would reccommend compiling cheaper catering ideas... (ex city bbq or something from the andersons, whole foods, giant eagle) and then have your FI approoach her with these kinda in a his "back pocket" incase she hasn't really planned stuff yet.

I had a 45 person engagement party @ my parents house and we made fajitas.... Peppers/onions can be made ahead, and the meat is really the only thing that needs replenishing. Not ideal if you want a sit-down but fun if you you want ppl to mingle.
