Replacement Bridesmaid Question

DD'ed due to privacy (and being neurotic). Thanks everyone for not quoting me as requested!

A general summary of the post (so other people can use it if this comes up for them): a bride asked me to maybe replace a BM who might or might not be able to attend the wedding. I haven't heard anything about it in a few months. Is it okay to ask the bride if I'm going to be a BM in her wedding or if the other BM is attending.

If you really want to clear up the confusion, call the bride to remind her of the conversation, and ask her. Just tell her you want to clear up your confusion. Simple. Myself, I'd probably thank her for thinking of me and tell her I am looking forward to being a guest at her wedding. IMHO, it is a rather shiiitty thing of her to do.

I would just ask. Like you said, you need to know if you need to budget for a dress and whatnot.

I would have said no and that you don't want to be a second tier friend. But, I digress.

Since that ship has left the dock. Just call her and ask her. "You mentioned to me that you might need a replacement? I need to know so I can start budgeting. Can you please let me know by X date? Thanks!"

Thanks for the advice everyone. I know it's extremely rude to ask a bride if you're going to be a bridesmaid and didn't want to commit a faux paus by asking about it.

Edie: yes, exactly. I just wasn't sure if the two would be considered the same as far as etiquette goes. Sorry if I was unclear there!
