Receiving line

I SUPER hate receiving lines...

I have been to weddings where there was no receiving line after the ceremony (in the church) and recently I have been to 2 where they did do it.

Would this be a major faux pas if we skipped that...jumped on the limo to get our pics taken, then headed to the reception?  Another rationale is our wedding is November...it gets dark early...I wanted to take advantage of any sunlight we can get that day.

We are doing an hour long mingling/cocktail hour before dinners are served.  So we can catch up with the guests/hug/kiss then I figure.

Thoughts?

Re: Receiving line

  • That's exactly what we did.  We set up camp during the cocktail hour in a certain area and met with everyone there, said hi and thanked everyone for coming and handed them their favour.  I didn't want to make people stand in a line to wait to leave the church or stand in a line to wait to get a drink during cocktail hour!

As long as you greet everyone and thank them for coming you can do it whenever you like.  Some girls also do table visits, but those can be very time consuming.
  • It depends on the size of your wedding.  If you have 75 guests or less, I'd do a receiving line.  More than that, skip the receiving line.

We are going to greet people during the cocktail hour.  Anyone we've missed, we will visit their table during dinner, inbetween courses.
  • We had 48 guests and we did a receiving line. I agreed to it because I was worried the ceremony would end before the cocktail hour began, and this was a way to stall people a bit. It ended up being a nonissue, but I'm glad we did it anyways. We did go around to tables during dinner, but we liked being able to individually thank, hug, and kiss everyone individually. Mind you, we never had a chance to mingle at cocktail hour so it worked for us. If you don't like them, don't do one.
